"The things inside are worth at least twenty billion Beli. What, aren't you tempted?"
Werther lay in bed, staring at the young woman before him in surprise.
She tapped her chin with one finger, putting on a thoughtful expression.
"Of course I'm tempted by that much money. But I also know that too much wealth only invites disaster. Not everyone is strong enough to take on Kaido of the Beasts, one of the Four Emperors, alone like you are.
"I never thought I'd meet the famous Thunder Swordsman in the flesh."
She gazed at Werther with open curiosity, as if he were some rare animal.
It made him rather uncomfortable, but she had saved his life, so he could only let her stare.
"Take on Kaido of the Beasts alone? He beat me. Completely. There's still a huge gap between me and the Four Emperors."
There was indeed a considerable gap. Although Werther had fought Kaido for nearly a full day and night, he had the vague sense that Kaido might be among the weakest of the Four Emperors in attack, while ranking at the top in defense and recovery.
Even at the end of their battle, Kaido had still been bursting with energy. If the island where they fought hadn't sunk, Kaido might well have killed Werther.
Werther was still a long way from matching the Four Emperors. If he could close that gap, his strength would undergo a fundamental transformation.
"My name is Werther, and I'm from the East Blue. May I ask your name?"
The woman thought for a moment, then smiled.
"I'm Gabuls D. Grace. I know who you are, Thunder Swordsman Werther."
