Lightning flashed above Werther's head. Moments later, he had conjured over a hundred blades through the Gate of Babylon.

"Leave now, or you'll leave a layer of skin behind."

Werther had a vague feeling that the giant Sea King had attacked the island for some other reason.

But he had no time to investigate, so he chose the simplest, most brutal approach.

The giant Sea King seemed to sense that the human on shore would be trouble, and it began to hesitate.

Clearly, this Sea King was no less intelligent than a human.

After wavering for a while, resolve gradually filled its eyes. Then it rammed the island head-on.

Boom!

A tremendous crash rang out along the shore as the giant Sea King struck the beach at the island's edge. Sand flew into the air and rained down around them.

Werther took one look and knew it would not retreat easily.

With that, Werther formed a Thunder Wall before him, blocking the sand flying toward them and covering Grace and her daughter's retreat.

Grace stood stunned. Werther's mention of the island sinking was too much to take in at once.

But when she saw the fear on her daughter's face, Grace gritted her teeth, scooped her up, and ran toward town, apparently to organize an evacuation.

On most islands in the New World, the navy had no right to station troops. Village chiefs and town chiefs were elected by the islanders themselves.
