"Who are you?" Doc Q's feeble voice came through.
"Blackbeard had his men ambush me not long ago. Have you forgotten me already?"
The two people on the other end of the Den Den Mushi exchanged glances. The same person came to both their minds.
"Thunder Swordsman Werther. We failed to kill you last time, and you got lucky and sank into the sea. Now you dare come after us again?"
Werther couldn't help scoffing. It took nerve to be that shameless.
Blackbeard had ambushed him, for one thing. And if Kaido had been replaced by Blackbeard, Werther wouldn't have backed down. Yet Doc Q made it sound as though the Blackbeard Pirates had driven him to the brink and he'd escaped by jumping into the sea.
Slice.
An ear flew into the air. Lafitte gave a muffled grunt.
"You have two minutes and twenty seconds left. Looks like Lafitte isn't that important to you. I might as well kill him."
"Wait."
"Hold on. I'll get Captain Teach right now."
Clearly, Lafitte mattered a great deal to the Blackbeard Pirates. He must have held an important position.
Blackbeard arrived faster than Werther expected. A minute later, he rushed in and snatched up the Den Den Mushi.
"Thunder Swordsman, you have Lafitte? How is he?"
Blackbeard's voice was dark with anger. He was already regretting his decision to ambush Werther. He had lost Sanjuan Wolf, a powerful asset in a siege, and now his companion Lafitte had been captured too.
Lafitte was nothing like Sanjuan Wolf. He was one of Blackbeard's first companions and a trusted confidant. Sanjuan Wolf was someone Blackbeard had freed from Impel Down, and he had never fully trusted him. There was a fundamental difference between them.
