After Kozuki Oden's defeat, the Samurai of Wano Country were left leaderless and began losing ground.
They were being driven back, but they still numbered more than ten thousand, while Kaido had only a few thousand men.
The two sides had originally been evenly matched in numbers. Once the Samurai under Wano Country's shogun joined the fighting, Wano Country gained the advantage.
Even so, its Samurai kept retreating. It wasn't that they were weak; Kozuki Oden's defeat had dealt them a crushing blow.
Kaido's pirates, by contrast, were riding high, their momentum nearly unstoppable.
Werther watched the distant battlefield with no intention of rejoining the fight. He badly needed rest. Though he had left Kozuki Oden in a sorry state, he had paid a steep price for it.
The wound through his chest and the stamina he had burned both demanded rest.
Werther found a spot with fewer bodies and quietly settled down.
As he rested, he took out a bottle of wine and drank deeply while watching the battle unfold.
Kaido spotted the wine in Werther's hand, swallowed, and strode over.
"Brat, get me a jug too. Make it a big one."
Kaido's demanding tone made Werther's gaze turn dangerous.
"Huh? Say that again."
As usual, Werther and Kaido found themselves glaring at each other.
Anger surged through Kaido. He raised his Spiked Club, and Werther drew Intent Blood.
Queen stared at them in disbelief. As she recalled, Werther was supposed to be an ally. Probably.
Tillman closed his eyes in anguish, then hurried toward them anyway.
This time, Tillman was too late. Kaido's Spiked Club had already met Werther's sword.
Boom! A shock wave tossed Queen's long hair. The stunned look on the vicious, ruthless All-Star's face made her seem almost adorably clueless.
