Sometimes, the line between genius and madness was razor-thin.
Cross it, and you were a madman. Stay on this side, and you were a genius in your field.
Dr. Vegapunk looked a little like Werther once had.
At his most obsessive, Werther had been even more consumed than Dr. Vegapunk was now.
"Vegapunk, what did you find?"
Werther's sharp shout cut through Dr. Vegapunk's reverie, and he calmed down a little.
"I discovered the secret of how Sea Kings came to be. This has puzzled me for a long time.
"Their enormous size doesn't fit with other fish. Stranger still, some Sea Kings are amphibious. Some can even live on land for long periods after leaving the sea.
"Their size reminded me of a certain experiment: making humans gigantic. So I began studying Sea Kings in depth.
"My research showed that this change wasn't something they were born with. It was an atavistic trait.
"What's even stranger is that other species evolve to suit their environment, but Sea Kings are different. They've evolved backward. They're both reverting to an ancestral form and evolving at the same time. It's astonishing.
"According to the laws of biology, (S+T)%+(C+T)%=1(C+G)%=1―(A+T)%=2C%=2G%=1―2..."
Vegapunk rattled off a string of equations that made Werther's head spin.
"Stop. I get the idea. You're saying there's something unnatural about how Sea Kings came to be, right?"
Vegapunk's hands trembled. After a long exhale, he sat back down.
"Yes. Their evolution is highly abnormal. My investigation suggests it was caused by the Red Line beneath our feet, and it may also be connected to Sunlight Tree Eve.
"Something inside the Red Line has affected Sea Kings and other fish, causing marine life to grow gigantic. That's why I intend to blow up the Red Line and find out what's inside."
So
