Before they knew it, Anita had spent a week aboard the ship and was gradually getting used to life at sea.

She and Tuski had grown closer, too. These days, they were practically inseparable.

One morning, Werther was sleeping soundly when a tremendous jolt flung him out of bed. Things all over the ship crashed to the floor.

"Hm? Did we run aground?" Werther shook his groggy head.

That was his first thought. The ship ran on electricity, and since both he and Tuski were lazy, they often locked the helm and sailed in one direction. They had run aground a few times before.

But the entire hull was built from Adam Wood, so running aground was no great concern.

Once Werther left his bedroom, he knew that was not what had happened. The ship was still moving.

The jolt made no sense to him. If they had not run aground, what had shaken the ship so violently? He headed for the Control Room to check for a mechanical fault. He had been a Chief Engineer in his previous life, after all; inspecting a ship's machinery was easy for him.
