While the harbor descended into chaos, Loa sat cross-legged on the spider's head, recovering his Magic Power.
A severed foot, bruised purple and blue, hung beneath the spider's belly. It belonged to Baron William. The tremors had shaken it loose from Motte Island, and it had landed right in front of Loa.
"It might come in handy, right? If nothing else, I can scare people with it."
With that thought, Loa had kept the foot.
Eight legs really did make a difference. Though Loa had made the spider on a whim, it still moved steadily forward.
Magic Power normally recovered at a fixed rate, whether he was fighting or sleeping.
But Loa had discovered long ago that if he quieted his breathing and sat still, that rate increased a little.
He was in such a hurry to recover because the Ice Spider was moving a little too fast!
It had been an untested flash of inspiration, nothing more than a bold idea.
And Loa had not studied physics. He had gone into marketing after graduation.
So while the Ice Spider looked fearsome, it had a whole host of problems beneath the surface.
For one thing, its rear had not been properly sealed, leaving a huge chunk missing. One front leg had received an uneven share of Magic Power and had begun shedding blocks of ice. The ice threads holding the island in place were packed too tightly, leaving the rocks bearing far too much weight.
In every possible way, Motte Island was telling Loa one thing.
I'm about to freaking collapse!!!
Left with no choice, Loa picked up the pace, hoping to reach Kuriswia Island before Motte Island fell apart completely.
He had no idea what awaited him there, or how many ambushes might be waiting. Relying only on the
