At the Port, rows of black Cannons stood neatly on stone platforms.

Their dark muzzles looked bottomless, and the air reeked of gunpowder and death.

The first volley had yet to explode when Mark ordered a second.

The advanced cannons supplied exclusively to the Marines gave him the confidence to fire again so quickly. Only a few had malfunctioned and needed repairs; the rest could fire again as soon as their barrels were cleaned.

But Loa had no intention of giving them even that much time.

On Motte Island, Loa hadn't noticed what made these cannons different. He had struck first, using Roaring Groundwash before they could fire.

Now that Loa knew, he was furious beyond words.

Hovering motionless in midair, Loa raised his right hand toward Bay Port.

His open palm also encompassed the incoming cannonballs within the attack's range.

The next instant, a white Ice Curtain appeared overhead, blotting out the sun.

The Ice Curtain was immense, seemingly boundless, as though it covered the entire sky.

It appeared in a flash, freezing the sea beneath it. The Port turned white as far as the eye could see. Ice and snow filled the view, and for the first time, the distance between earth and sky seemed so small.

Boom! Boom!

Dozens upon dozens of cannonballs slammed into the Ice Curtain, bursting into brilliant sprays of snow.

Black smoke lent the Ice Curtain a dreamlike hue.

The bandits at the Port stared at the cannonballs, hoping they would do their job.

But when the Flame and smoke cleared, the Ice Curtain stood before them, completely unscathed.
