From the sea, Ian Island looked peaceful in the sunlight, radiating all the charm of a spring island.

As they cautiously sailed along the island's eastern shore, Simon, the Sniper, suddenly narrowed his eyes and shouted, "Slow down!"
"Heading northwest, zero degrees! Prepare the Lifeboat for landing!"

Arudo had put on his combat gear again. The long chains attached to his custom gauntlets clattered across the deck.
He came up beside Simon and lowered his head. "What's going on? Is there an enemy, Simon? Let me lead the charge!"
"No, there's no enemy." Simon shook his head, much to the battle-hungry man's disappointment.
Simon stared at a rise along the shore and rubbed his chin. "I just spotted something strange. Tell Mingde to come with me in the Lifeboat and take a look."
"Oh, all right!" Arudo looked toward the island but saw nothing. He nodded in confusion, then ran off to fetch Mingde.
Thud, thud, thud!
His heavy footsteps made the deck creak as though it might break at any moment.
That was exactly why Simon had no intention of bringing Arudo, their best human shield, ashore. One step into the little boat and he'd sink it!
