With that in mind, Loa asked his question. Zephyr's answer made him narrow his eyes.

It had all started shortly after Jones put to sea. Acting on Loa's orders, he had been searching for Mechanical Island.
Mechanical Island was actually a giant turtle, and no Log Pose pointed to it. Even though Loa had described it in detail, Jones still had no clear lead. All he could do was search one stretch of sea after another.
There was nothing Loa could do about that, either. They would just have to leave it to chance.
When Jones called from the G-9 branch to say he had succeeded, Loa had honestly been a little surprised.
During his search, Jones had stumbled into the Florian Triangle in the Fog Sea and boarded Thriller Bark.
That day, Jones had held a sea turtle in his hands and lowered his intelligence to its level so he could talk to it at length. He came away with one conclusion.
Mechanical Island was very likely somewhere in those waters!
The turtle had told him there was a moving island nearby. Jones put that together with Loa's information and, without thinking it through carefully while his intelligence was still diminished, took the turtle's island for Mechanical Island.
That was how Jones first met Moria and his crew.
As his intelligence gradually returned, Jones realized something was wrong.
Mechanical Island was supposed to be prosperous, with residents who lived in peace and comfort. No matter how he looked at it, this run-down place could not be the same island!
Everywhere he looked, there were twisted trees and graveyards covering the hillsides.
At that sight, Jones seriously doubted there were any living people on the island at all.
