Kaido was in more than bad shape. The sight of him was enough to make anyone weep.
After pulling the ice from his chest, he was left with a bloody hole wide enough for Loa to crawl through! Through the torn, crimson flesh and exposed white bone, the three of them could even see Kaido's organs moving!
And the skin across the rest of his body was an even more horrifying sight!
Everyone had seen how hard Loa's ice was. Never mind the finger-thick lumps buried beneath Kaido's skin—even ice threads as fine as hair were as hard as steel.
So when Kaido pulled, he ripped out not only the pillar of ice in his chest, but also the fine threads that had spread throughout his body!
Loa knew of an ancient punishment called flaying. A person's outer skin was peeled away bit by bit while they were still alive, leaving them to die screaming in indescribable agony. It was cruelty beyond measure.
And Kaido had just inflicted it on himself!
The ice threads had stuck to the inside of his skin. As Kaido pulled them free, they tore away great patches of it, exposing the slick, crimson muscle beneath.
For a moment, the blood held back. Then it gushed out like water through a broken dam, running down Kaido's body and dripping at his feet. A pool of blood soon formed beneath him!
Even Aokiji and Kizaru, who had grown up on these seas and seen plenty of the Pirates' brutality, were badly shaken. Loa was hardly alone.
But the two of them recovered faster than Loa. After a brief moment of shock, they studied Kaido's injuries.
Like Kaido, they believed that removing the ice would stop his life force from draining away. Without Loa's technique to help them,
