Standing before the golden Ark Maxim, Simon stroked his chin and spoke with certainty.
"No kidding!"
Robin rolled her eyes and pointed at the golden Ark Maxim. "What kind of thief steals gold in patches all over the place? What, did they know which parts had the purest gold?"
The gold on the Ark Maxim had indeed been stolen—and with a remarkable sense of artistry!
A circle was missing from the middle of the deck. A triangle was gone from the left side of the hull. And the gold statue Enel had made in his own likeness atop the cabin? Its hand was gone!
A perfectly good golden Ark Maxim had gone from a lavish, top-of-the-line ship to an abstract artwork combining crop circles with the Venus de Milo!
Worst of all, someone had unscrewed and stolen one of the eight gold spheres that conducted electricity in the power room beneath the deck!
Those things were not easy to make!
Their precision requirements were exacting. The slightest deviation could destabilize the current and spell disaster. The ship would be destroyed, even if those aboard survived.
Enel had even begged Ulysses to make all eight for his precious Ark Maxim!
After this theft, the Ark Maxim could forget flying to Endless Vearth. It would sink the moment it put to sea!
Catching the culprit was a given!

The three fell silent, chins in hand like students of Bleach.
Not once since the Ark Maxim workshop was established had its gold been stolen. Never mind Enel's standing on Turtle Island; his Rumble-Rumble Fruit alone was enough to deter most would-be thieves.
