Caesar had taken a beating, but he was satisfied.
The explosion caused by his failed experiment had burned through the research funds. Word of that would sound terrible and might make him a disgrace in scientific circles! So Caesar stayed shut inside, intent on quietly enjoying his own good looks.
But he still hadn't given up his scheme. Having tasted success, he seemed to have gotten the wrong idea. Whenever he had time, he came to Loa to see if there was another chance to squeeze—no, borrow—a little more research funding from the Ark Maxim.
To his disappointment, Loa had no plans for a second operation. He even flatly denied ordering the first. Caesar was baffled at first, then broke out in shivers and carefully prepared to slip back to his laboratory.
Loa's meaning was obvious: he was ready to sell Caesar out!
If Caesar stayed here, Enel might come looking for a little chat whenever he was in a bad mood. Loa certainly wouldn't help him then.
