With Loa no longer around to cause what Robin called "mischief," construction of the Ark Maxim finally got back on track.
When Ulysses woke and heard what had happened, the first thing he did was board the Ark Maxim and kick Enel's statue off it!
Either Enel kept the statue and built the Ark Maxim's hull from another material, or he tore the statue down and kept his flashy golden ship.
That was the ultimatum Ulysses gave Enel.
Enel would have preferred to use another material and coat it in a thick layer of gold paint. But his dignity as a god told him that if anyone discovered he had passed off painted wood as gold, he would never live it down. He would have to commit seppuku on the spot.
And so the Ark Maxim finally became tidy. All of Enel's personal touches were thrown off the ship.
Simon and Robin, who were going along, breathed a sigh of relief. They could hardly stand Enel's vanity. Just imagining that every step onto the deck would bring them face-to-face with a solid-gold statue of a certain long-eared man in a headscarf—and walls carved all over with lines like "God is supreme!" and "Thunder Country!"—was enough to make them shudder.
The early-summer morning breeze was warm and pleasant, with just the right humidity. It had neither the scorching heat of noon nor the dryness of dusk. It was a fine time to set sail.
It was a fine day indeed. Gran Tesoro's original inhabitants had gathered outside the Golden Ark Maxim Workshop, craning their necks for a look. Enel had brought them here. Though Loa was the master of this place, Enel was undoubtedly the one they held in greater awe.
