Ch. 321Petty-Minded Momonga
Plot points and events
- Loa and Zephyr discuss how to respond to Moria’s unexpected departure from the Florian Triangle. To keep Jones’s identity hidden until Loa’s plans are ready, they agree Jones should avoid Moria for now. Loa will wait to hear the Navy’s decision and may deal with Moria himself.
- Zephyr is unable to help immediately because he is tracking a merchant ship bound for Alabasta. They also review their plan to target Crocodile.
- In Alabasta, Crocodile is pleased with Baroque Works’ progress toward destabilizing the kingdom, but feels unexplained unease. He expects to overthrow King Cobra within three years and find information about Pluton.
- Robin reports that the Navy’s campaign against the [Censored] Army forced Baroque Works to alter a shipment’s route. She also tells Crocodile that Loa supposedly defeated the organization’s officers in front of Dragon.
- Crocodile insists Loa and the Navy are no concern: once he finds Pluton, he believes nothing can threaten him. Robin notices that Crocodile’s words and manner reveal more anxiety than he admits.
- Loa receives a summons to a Navy meeting about Moria. At the gathering, Momonga pointedly ignores Loa, apparently still resentful over an earlier incident involving supplies. Sengoku begins the meeting once everyone has arrived.
Character developments and interactions
- Loa prioritizes keeping Jones concealed and remains willing to confront Moria if the opportunity arises. He greets Momonga casually, but Momonga’s cold shoulder exposes lingering friction between them.
- Zephyr supports Loa’s plan while making clear that his current assignment prevents him from intervening.
- Crocodile projects confidence in his scheme and faith in Pluton, though his unease about Loa betrays a vulnerability he refuses to acknowledge.
- Robin remains observant and emotionally detached from Crocodile’s ambitions. She recognizes his hidden fear but chooses not to challenge him.
- Momonga shows that he still holds a grudge against Loa; Haisoken is caught awkwardly between them until Sengoku starts the meeting.
Significant themes
- Secrecy and timing: Loa’s plans depend on keeping Jones hidden until the right moment.
- Confidence versus concealed fear: Crocodile’s certainty in Pluton clashes with the anxiety his behavior reveals.
- Power and reputation: Reports of Loa’s victory over the [Censored] Army unsettle even powerful figures.
- Grudges and strained relationships: Momonga’s silent snub shows how past conflicts persist within the Navy.
