This was Impel Down, yet he actually dared to kill the guards here.
With the courage of a tiger and ruthless hands, if one wanted to survive in this world, one had to understand the law of the strong devouring the weak!
Although he had only been in this world for four months, Ye Chen had already changed greatly.
First, Ohara had been mercilessly destroyed by the World Government. They had slaughtered so many innocent civilians at will, deeply shocking Ye Chen. This world was not a peaceful, comfortable paradise—it was a hell where lives were constantly in danger.
The World Government was supposed to protect civilians and maintain order, yet they could destroy an island for no reason at all.
Now that Ye Chen was trapped in Impel Down, he could only trust himself and rely on himself. He was wary of everyone else, and he felt even deeper hatred toward the so-called World Government.
"Blackie..."
Hearing the commotion, the fat guard turned around and saw that Blackie had already collapsed in the snow, his head even severed from his body.
The fat guard turned pale with fright and tremblingly pulled a musket from his back. Before he could aim, Ye Chen swiftly grabbed Blackie's gun. With a bang, the first to pull the trigger was, unexpectedly, six-year-old Ye Chen.
Black smoke burst from the barrel. The next moment, before the fat guard could fire, a bloody hole appeared between his brows.
Ye Chen quickly stripped the two guards of their clothes and searched them clean of anything useful. Then he took a dagger and began slashing at their bodies. As he cut, Ye Chen imitated a wolf's howl. "Awoo! Awoo!"
Ye Chen was not reckless at all. Basan and the others were still wondering why Ye Chen had lured the wolves over, but after Ye Chen slipped back into the cell, the War Wolves caught the scent of blood on the ground and charged over. Seeing the two bloody corpses, they did not hesitate in the slightest. Howling excitedly, they opened their bloodied maws and pounced directly on the guards.
"What a clever Ghost!"
Basan nodded approvingly. He knew Ye Chen was destroying the evidence.
At first glance, Ye Chen had keenly noticed that the War Wolves had not attacked the guards only because they wore specially made fur robes. Once the guards' clothes had been stripped away, they were no longer guards in the War Wolves' eyes, but delicious meals.
Before long, those ferocious, terrifying War Wolves had devoured the two guards completely, leaving not even bones behind. Only a mess of footprints and pools of scarlet blood remained. Even if someone came to investigate, they would find nothing.
Unless someone here betrayed Ye Chen. But these people had eaten plenty of wolf meat from him, and Ye Chen had also brought them a great deal of entertainment. With Basan as the boss of the cell, Ye Chen believed they would not go looking for trouble.
Sure enough, the incident did not draw the attention of Impel Down's guards. Similar things had happened before, and Magellan merely warned the guards to be more careful whenever they went to Freezing Hell in the future.
Not a single prisoner had escaped, and not one prisoner was missing from the cells. The guards all assumed the War Wolves had been starving and attacked the guards. No one realized that while Freezing Hell had not lost any prisoners, it had gained two.
Ye Chen gave one of the fur robes to Olvia and kept one for himself. He also kept the musket. When he discovered cigarettes in the pockets of the fur robes, he tossed them to Basan and the others.
Basan laughed heartily. "This old man hasn't smoked one of these in years. It really brings back memories."
Basan did not keep them all for himself. Of the several packs, he kept one and distributed the rest to the others. The prisoners immediately rejoiced, jumping about in delight. Some shouted that they wanted to pass their skills on to Ye Chen, and they even urged him to keep it up and pull off a few more jobs so everyone's lives could improve.
Ye Chen chuckled. He knew perfectly well that he might avoid suspicion once or twice, but if guards kept dying, even an idiot would guess that something strange was going on in Freezing Hell.
With the musket, Ye Chen had something to rely on. Gathering his courage, he went outside again. Before he had walked a hundred meters, a War Wolf spotted him. Ye Chen raised his hand skillfully and fired with a crack. The War Wolf was extremely agile. It darted four or five meters away in a flash, kicking up snow as it landed and narrowly dodging the bullet.
Ye Chen shook his head, clearly disappointed. He aimed at the War Wolf again and fired three shots in succession. The War Wolf dodged the first two bullets, but Ye Chen's luck was good—the third struck its right leg. Limping, the War Wolf turned and fled. Though its body staggered, it did not slow much.
Ye Chen moved like the wind and hurried after it, firing several more shots. It took an entire magazine before he finally killed the War Wolf. Angrily, Ye Chen tossed the musket aside, sprinted over, hoisted the War Wolf up, and ran back.
For now, Ye Chen did not dare go too far from the cell. The War Wolves here were simply too savage, as strong as monsters.
"Tsk, tsk... Ghost, well done. We're in for another feast."
When Ye Chen returned loaded down, the prisoners in the cell immediately burst into laughter. Though the wolf meat was raw, it was far better than that stale, hard bread. Besides, they only received a few pieces of bread a month, which was nowhere near enough.
This time, Ye Chen was not so generous. He kept half for himself and distributed the rest among everyone.
Time passed bit by bit. Ye Chen trained day and night and improved rapidly. He had even gotten started with Haki. The prisoners in the cell clamored to teach Ye Chen their skills.
Such a strange thing would never have happened outside Impel Down. Even if Ye Chen knelt and kowtowed, they would not easily teach him. But this was Freezing Hell. Some of these prisoners had been trapped here for over a decade. They no longer held any hope of getting out. They only wanted their lives to be a little more enjoyable and a little more comfortable.
Trading a piece of wolf meat for the Six Powers seemed perfectly natural here. In fact, that rear admiral had practically begged Ye Chen to learn it.
That Navy rear admiral had been imprisoned in Impel Down for releasing captured slaves. He was a decent man. Seeing Ye Chen study Haki with Basan every day, he grew both envious and jealous. He begged and pleaded for several days before Ye Chen finally agreed to his request.
The prisoners here knew all sorts of things, but not much interested Ye Chen. Besides, he came from China and preferred to make kung fu shine in this world, to make everyone look at it with new eyes. Ye Chen believed that day would come.
If he had not possessed the Martial Arts Codex, Ye Chen would have been willing to learn anything. But since he had it, and already had a foundation in kung fu, he believed this was fate's arrangement.
