Background / History

Olvia left Ohara when Robin was two years old to research Poneglyphs and the Void Century. During her travels, the Marines captured her and learned that Ohara’s scholars were studying the forbidden century. She returned to the island to warn Dr. Clover that CP9 had been ordered to investigate and that the World Government would destroy Ohara if the research were confirmed. 10

After six years apart, Olvia immediately recognized Robin when her daughter ran into her arms at the Tree of Knowledge. She denied being Robin’s mother despite her grief, believing that acknowledging the relationship would endanger Robin. 10

CP9 captured Olvia during the Buster Call. Robin’s public declaration that she could read Poneglyphs forced Olvia to abandon her denial and openly acknowledge her daughter, though she was unable to escape with her. 12 13

Even after reuniting with Robin, Olvia chose to remain at the Tree of Knowledge and help preserve Ohara’s documents. She entrusted Robin to Ye Chen before returning to the library amid the bombardment. 14

Ye Chen later found Olvia severely wounded beside the lake where Ohara’s scholars had thrown their books. When Aokiji froze the lake to preserve the documents, Ye Chen and Olvia survived beneath the ice and subsequently hid under Saul’s frozen body. The Marines unknowingly transported them with Saul to Impel Down’s Freezing Hell. 15 17

In Freezing Hell, Olvia became dependent on Ye Chen’s protection while suffering from injuries, hunger, extreme cold, and recurring fever. He obtained wolf pelts and meat for her, traded with prisoners for medical knowledge and supplies, and crossed the wolf-infested forest to retrieve Cold Fragrance Grass and Blood Lotus for her treatment. 18 19 20 23 24

Golden Lion freed Olvia after Ye Chen knelt and begged for her release. She escaped Impel Down with Ye Chen and Golden Lion, then reached Sabaody Archipelago under Marco’s escort. 32 33 35

Olvia initially waited for Ye Chen at Shakky’s bar, but left to search for Robin because she could not bear knowing her daughter was still being hunted. She entrusted Ye Chen’s swords, Oto and Kogarashi, to Shakky for his return, and Rayleigh saw her off. Over the following ten years, her search exposed her to repeated Marine captures and threats from pirates and criminals. She survived through quick thinking, help from the Revolutionary Army, and occasional assistance from Aokiji. 59 298

Olvia was later held in shackles aboard Spandine’s warship. Ye Chen found her below deck and promised to get her out; Kuro rescued her amid the chaos caused by a bomb planted on the warship. Aboard Ye Chen’s ship, the two embraced and wept at their reunion. Ye Chen began calling her “Mom,” a change Olvia understood as a sign of his enduring feelings for Robin. Olvia was subsequently reported to be staying at Spoon Aunt’s place on Sabaody when Ye Chen planned to bring Nami, Bellemere, and Nojiko there for safety. 493

She initially rejects Robin to prevent the World Government from connecting her daughter to Ohara’s research, then openly embraces her when Robin is threatened. In Freezing Hell, Olvia proves resilient enough to endure raw wolf meat and brutal conditions, but her injuries and illness leave her reliant on Ye Chen. She is deeply affected by the risks he takes for her survival and repeatedly worries about the burdens placed on him. 19 24 32

Buster Call and Ohara’s Fall

Captured by CP9, Olvia becomes central to Robin’s exposure as a Poneglyph reader. After briefly escaping through Ye Chen’s hostage-taking, she chooses to return to the Tree of Knowledge rather than abandon Ohara’s records. 12 13 14

Survival in Impel Down

Olvia survives the destruction of Ohara and is inadvertently smuggled to Impel Down beneath Saul’s frozen body. In Freezing Hell, her deteriorating health drives Ye Chen’s wolf hunts, trades with prisoners, and expedition for medicinal herbs. 17 19 20 23 24

Escape and Sabaody

Golden Lion frees Olvia during his escape from Impel Down. After arriving on Sabaody, she continues traveling with Ye Chen, remains distressed by Robin’s wanted poster, and waits at Shakky’s bar while Ye Chen evades Zephyr’s Marine search. 32 35 38 44

Search for Robin and Second Rescue

Unable to remain at Shakky’s bar while Robin is hunted, Olvia sets out to find her. Her search lasts ten years and ends without a reunion with her daughter. Marines eventually imprison her aboard Spandine’s warship, where Ye Chen finds her. Kuro rescues Olvia during the ensuing chaos, allowing her and Ye Chen to reunite aboard his ship.
