After a long standoff, Ye Chen realized they could not break through. The Death God was equipped as well as any warship, and its hull was sturdy enough to withstand the occasional hit. But the enemy had overwhelming numbers and had practically sealed off the Sea Surface. The longer this went on, the greater the Navy's advantage would become.

Momonga continued issuing orders coldly. The Navy's bombardment grew fiercer, one volley following another without end.
Cannonballs filled the air like a torrential storm, nearly blotting out the sky.
Towering waves rose across the Sea Surface. Shells exploded near the Death God from time to time, sending water spraying everywhere and rocking the ship violently.
"Ye Chen, we can't get through. There are too many warships."
Kuro looked worried as he fended off incoming shells. "We should retreat to Loguetown and draw them ashore. Fighting at sea puts us at a serious disadvantage."
