History
Division from the Western Land branch
The Far West Long Family originated as a branch of the Western Land Long Family. Roughly two centuries before the branches reconnected, the original clan's population exceeded its available resources, producing internal conflict, inflated prices, and competition over cultivation supplies. A large group of members was forcibly sent to reclaim remote, barren territory; they became the Far West branch. 133
Distance, the dangerous Hundred Thousand Mountains, and hazardous sea routes gradually severed contact between the two branches. They later resumed relations while remaining politically separate forces with a shared bloodline and genealogy. 133
Establishment in the Far West
After arriving in the Far West, the Long Family seized its mountain territory from demonic cultivators following a three-day battle. It established its residence at the region's densest spiritual-energy point and planted the Divine Dragon Tree there as its sacred tree. 125
The family's rise accelerated after the Li Family, crippled by the loss of a purchased King-Breaking Pill and its escorts, ceded its territory to the Long Family at a low price. The acquired land allowed the Long Family to rapidly join the Seven Great Clans. 131
Bloodline policy
The Long Family historically produced many mixed-blood descendants through relationships between its cultivators and mortal women. Because the clan could not support every descendant, it prohibited aid or admission for mixed-blood offspring unless they showed exceptional cultivation value. 84
Long Xuan was admitted only after his Ten Extremity Physique and compatible cultivation method established him as a genius worthy of special nurturing. 84
Organization and governance
Leadership
| Position / Member | Role |
|---|---|
| Long Wanli | Family head of the Far West Long Family; directs its political strategy, resource allocation, and relations with other lineages. 41 43 |
| Long Ao / Old Long | Third-Grade Alchemist whose Profound Dragon Pill refinement became central to the family's plan to create additional Gu Kings. 84 131 |
| Long Buhui | Senior member formerly forced to guard the Divine Dragon Tree for fifty years; later entrusted with a Profound Dragon Pill for a Gu King breakthrough. 126 131 |
| Long Lie | Spiritual Sea Stage cultivator frequently assigned escort and protection missions because he is not a sitting elder. 91 138 |
| Long Ziyan | The family's foremost young genius; possesses a ninth-grade bloodline, Nine-Yin Severing Physique, Innate Sword Bone, and later reaches the Spiritual Sea Stage. 85 96 186 |
| Long Chao | Former genius and traitor who colluded with foreign forces to obtain Divine Dragon Milk for his Evil Dragon Emperor Eye. 123 128 |
Internal rules and institutions
- The family distributes cultivation resources through contribution points and the Mission Hall; members are expected to earn rather than receive resources freely. 85 88
- Exceptional contributors may receive Hidden Dragon Tattoos, an honor recorded in the family genealogy that also offers minor combat enhancement. 88
- Most secret arts are opened to recognized geniuses, but cultivation resources remain personally earned. 88
- The family maintains a Technique Transmission Hall, Scripture Repository, Martial Hall, Gu-Dueling Arena, family school, Mission Hall, and Treasure Repository. 85
- Clothing reflects rank: stewards wear three-clawed dragon emblems, hall masters wear four-clawed dragons, and the family head and council elders wear five-clawed dragons. 85
Divine Dragon Tree
The Divine Dragon Tree is the Long Family's sacred tree, planted at the spiritual center of its territory and guarded by powerful cultivators. The family conducts eye-washing rites, sacrifices, and ceremonies around it. 125
Its Divine Dragon Milk supports the Evil Dragon Emperor Eye, while its Dragon's Tear is used for eye washing. Damage to the tree forced the cancellation of a planned eye-cleansing event and contribution-point compensation for its participants. 125 128
Innovations and strategic assets
| Asset | Development and use |
|---|---|
| Dung Beetle Gu | Long Xuan's recipe earned one hundred million contribution points and prompted clan-wide competitions to normalize its use. Early misuse caused widespread dung-related accidents throughout the family grounds. 88 |
| Earthworker Gu and Insect Armor | The family fields large numbers of Earthworkers and uses cement armor and formations to equip them. Its Earthworker and Insect Armor technologies were later exchanged with the Western Land branch. 115 134 |
| Cement Technology | Initially dismissed as worthless, cement became valuable enough for Long Wanli to exchange one hundred million contribution points for the technology. 115 |
| Thatch Gu | Initially transports only objects through the Void Realm, enabling communication, deliveries, logistics, and intelligence work. The family valued its recipe at one hundred million contribution points. 108 109 110 |
| Spatial House | A Thatch Gu Cottage built with Spatial Stone that teleports living beings. It connected the Far West and Western Land branches and enabled rapid trade, reinforcement, and evacuation. 138 181 |
| Blood Dragon Battle Gu | A recovered ancient exclusive recipe requiring roughly ten thousand materials. The two Long Family branches mass-produced it after their wealth increased through Spatial House trade. 188 191 |
| Longevity Gu | Long Xuan's human-use recipe restored three dying Gu King ancestors. The family concealed the revived ancestors by faking their deaths, preserving them as hidden wartime forces. 215 |
Relationships
- Western Land Long Family — Original branch from which the Far West family split; the two branches later exchanged technology, recruited each other's geniuses, and established Spatial House links. 133 134 138
- Feng Clan — Long-standing blood enemy of the Long Family; the Far West branches also contested mining rights and political influence. 85 160
- Seven Great Clans of the Far West — Rival lineages with whom Long Wanli proposed jointly purchasing and mining the Fossil Ore Vein to prevent any one faction from monopolizing it. 43
- Long Family Alliance — Wartime alliance structure that issues mandatory missions to Long Family cultivators and coordinates broader military operations. 210
- Dragon-Teng Empire — A prospective source of protection sought through alliances with other Long clans, as the family considered its teleportation technology too valuable and dangerous to defend alone. 191
- West Sea Long Clan — A related Long clan the family chose to assist against the Zhu and Song families in hopes of gaining a dependable ally. 191
Story Role / Major Arcs
Fossil Ore Vein auction
Long Wanli appeared reckless by spending heavily on Spirit-Gathering Pills, but his real strategy was to preserve enough leverage to organize the Seven Great Clans into a joint Fossil Ore Vein bid. His plan prevented the merchant associations from monopolizing the vein and secured the Long Family a share without bearing the entire cost. 41 43
Recruitment of Long Xuan
After learning of Long Xuan's Long Family blood and Ten Extremity Physique, Old Long recruited him as a medicine boy and later personal disciple. The family subsequently recognized Long Xuan as a rare genius, opened most secret arts to him, and rewarded his inventions with immense contribution-point grants. 84 88
Sacred tree conspiracy
Long Chao plotted with the Soul Clan and Brain Gu clan to massacre the family's young geniuses, steal Divine Dragon Milk, and perfect his Evil Dragon Emperor Eye. The elders uncovered the conspiracy through surveillance, while Long Xuan later redirected suspicion toward Chao after the Divine Dragon Tree was damaged. 123 126 128
Reconnection with the Western Land branch
The Western Land Long Family recruited Far West geniuses for its arena contest against the Bai Clan, exploiting their shared genealogy to treat them as internal reinforcements. The arrangement deepened into a technology-for-resources alliance, with the Western branch obtaining Earthworker and Insect Armor methods. 133 134
Spatial House expansion and wartime growth
The Spatial House network enabled the two branches to move supplies and cultivators between distant regions. During Blackstone City's siege, the Long Family secretly supplied the city through this network, earning major profits while undermining the enemy's war-of-attrition strategy. 181 191
The family's teleportation methods later became a major battlefield advantage, allowing its cultivators to appear near enemy positions, raid vulnerable rear lines, and retreat before reinforcements arrived. 211
Hidden Gu King forces
After receiving Long Xuan's Longevity Gu Recipe, the family restored three dying Gu King ancestors. Long Yuanshan arranged for them to fake their deaths so they could be retained as concealed forces during the war. 215
