Background
The Qin Household is one of Long River Town’s original Four Great Lineages. Its position is unusual: the family initially has no known Internal Force expert, despite such experts normally being necessary for a lineage to maintain its standing. According to the town’s accepted history, Song Wanyan’s parents previously aided the household’s rise and status, leaving the Qins indebted to the Song family. This account is later called into question by Qin Yueyao’s claim that Song Wanyan’s parents never existed despite being remembered by the townspeople. 4 6 21
This debt restrains the household from acting openly against Song Wanyan. Master Qin repeatedly forbids his son from pursuing her, warning that she must not be harmed; Qin Ziyu admits that he lacks the courage even to approach her residence without being forced back by members of his own household. 4 6 12
The household has a history of severe internal discipline. According to Senior Brother Tao, another Qin young master was once beaten to death, helping explain Master Qin’s strict control over Qin Ziyu. 7
Master Huang later explains that the household had been intimidated by Song Wanyan’s supposed parents, rather than simply acting out of gratitude. After Song Wanyan disappears, people in town begin noticing inconsistencies in their memories and previously overlooked circumstances. The rival lineages covet the Qin Household’s resources. Conflict with Song Wanyan
Qin Ziyu attempts to use Song Wanyan’s supposed detention by the household to threaten Lin Xiaotian and demand fifty taels of silver. Lin recognizes that Qin Ziyu is only an intimidated intermediary and concludes that the household lacks the strength to truly act against Song. 12
Song Wanyan subsequently enters the Qin Residence, creates illusions of its servants, and interrogates Qin Ziyu about Lin. Master Qin kneels to beg for his son’s life, openly acknowledging that the household cannot oppose her. 13
Afterward, Qin Ziyu collapses from overexertion connected to a male-female illusion technique. Master Qin again appeals to Song Wanyan for help; she warns him not to forget the Song family’s support and cautions the household to keep female servants away from Qin Ziyu. 16
Song Wanyan washes away Master Qin’s and Qin Ziyu’s memories of the earlier confrontation. Even afterward, Master Qin kneels publicly at the residence gate to plead for his son. When Song renews her warning, he promises that the household will not forget the Song family’s help and will ensure her safety in town. 16
The seductive entity sharing Song Wanyan’s body later reveals that the supposed detention was intended to provoke Lin’s emotions and stimulate his Blood Qi. The Qin Household therefore served as an instrument in a scheme surrounding Lin, rather than successfully holding Song against her will. 17

Destruction and Surviving Family
After the rival households move against her, Qin Yueyao instructs her father and younger brother to take their silver and live in the County Town. She believes her own survival will preserve some deterrence and prevent the enemies from pursuing her relatives too relentlessly. 30
The father and son nevertheless encounter a pursuer more than a dozen li outside Long River Town. He explains that he deliberately allowed them to leave town so they could be killed away from the political complications of dividing their household’s resources. Master Qin insists that his son survive and supports him through the escape, while Qin Ziyu repeatedly tries to stop from exhaustion. The pursuer wounds and threatens Qin Ziyu before Yueyao arrives and kills him. 31
Ouyang Zhentian subsequently declines a proposal to mobilize the lineages for another hunt against Yueyao. Instead, he orders that surviving Qin relatives in town not be killed and that Master Qin’s and Qin Ziyu’s whereabouts be tracked, even if they reach the County Town. He regards these relatives as bargaining chips that can make Yueyao hesitate to attack the Ouyang Household. 32
In a later discussion at the Ouyang mine, Master Huang explicitly describes the Qin Household as having been destroyed too quickly. Ouyang Zhentian acknowledges that intercepting Yueyao exposed the Ouyangs’ activities and helped attract outside suspicion.
