Background
The Qin Household is one of Long River Town’s Four Great Lineages. Its position is unusual: the family has no known Internal Force expert, despite such experts normally being necessary for a lineage to maintain its standing. Song Wanyan’s parents previously aided the household’s rise and status, leaving the Qins indebted to the Song family. 4 6
This debt restrains the household from acting openly against Song Wanyan. Master Qin repeatedly forbids his son from pursuing her, warning that she must not be harmed; Qin Ziyu admits that he lacks the courage even to approach her residence without being forced back by members of his own household. 4 6 12
The household has a history of severe internal discipline. According to Senior Brother Tao, another Qin young master was once beaten to death, helping explain Master Qin’s strict control over Qin Ziyu. 7

Standing and Martial Strength
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Lineage status | One of Long River Town’s Four Great Lineages. 4 6 |
| Internal Force expert | The household has no known Internal Force expert overseeing it. 6 20 |
| Primary deterrent | Its daughter is a newly entered External Force martial artist comparable to late-stage External Force practitioners. Other Lineages fear eventual retaliation should she return after reaching Internal Force. 20 |
| Political weakness | The household’s lack of an Internal Force expert leaves its continued status conspicuous and uncertain. 6 |
Relations
- Song Wanyan — The Qin Household owes its position to her parents and is expected to protect her; Master Qin forbids Qin Ziyu from harming or pursuing her. 4 6
- Lin Xiaotian — Song Wanyan’s adopted younger brother. Lin repeatedly beats Qin Ziyu and takes silver from him under the name of “friendly exchanges.” 6 7 12 19
- Huang Family Martial Hall — The household avoids directly retaliating against Lin in part because he is a martial hall disciple and his actions reflect on the hall. 20
Conflict with Song Wanyan
Qin Ziyu attempts to use Song Wanyan’s supposed detention by the household to threaten Lin Xiaotian and demand fifty taels of silver. Lin recognizes that Qin Ziyu is only an intimidated intermediary and concludes that the household lacks the strength to truly act against Song. 12
Song Wanyan subsequently enters the Qin Residence, creates illusions of its servants, and interrogates Qin Ziyu about Lin. Master Qin kneels to beg for his son’s life, openly acknowledging that the household cannot oppose her. 13
Afterward, Qin Ziyu collapses from overexertion connected to a male-female illusion technique. Master Qin again appeals to Song Wanyan for help; she warns him not to forget the Song family’s support and cautions the household to keep female servants away from Qin Ziyu. 16
Notable Incidents
- Qin Ziyu’s martial-hall humiliation — Lin Xiaotian punches Qin Ziyu and obtains five taels of silver for the Huang Family Martial Hall entrance trial. 6 7
- Tuition delivery — Qin Ziyu delivers the remaining twenty taels to Lin at night, only to be beaten repeatedly before conveying the household’s false or manipulated detention threat. 12
- Qin Residence illusion — Song Wanyan transforms Qin Ziyu’s apparent return home into an illusion-filled interrogation, demonstrating the household’s helplessness before her supernatural abilities. 13
- Repeated “friendly exchange” — After recovering, Qin Ziyu is ambushed again by Lin, who takes more silver to fund his food and cultivation. 19
