Ch. 481Gatekeeper

Plot points and events

  • The submarine’s hull splits under the abyssal pressure, but a protective bubble—created by the Gatekeeper—prevents the occupants from being crushed or flooded.
  • Outside, the survivors see a vast field of pink crystals and the monstrous Gatekeeper, whose blood-like fluid hardens into mirage crystal.
  • The Gatekeeper and Ailot reveal that their agreement was only a temporary truce. Both want the real-world arrivals as sacrifices: killing them will reopen the golden door to the Dreamland Beyond the Other Shore.
  • Xia Lun explains how he deduced that Ailot had an adversary. The Scenario’s contradictory clues and altered documents suggested that another force was contesting Ailot’s control; he identified that force as the Gatekeeper. His solution earns him 1,800 Memory Points.
  • Ailot explains that she and the Gatekeeper once served a great being, then stole the Typewriter to escape toward the mortal world. Since only one can escape, they became enemies and the Scenario descended into disorder.
  • Xia Lun asks whether either has seen White Line, but the Gatekeeper refuses to answer and threatens the group. Xia Lun tries to negotiate, identifying himself as a Merchant and proposing cooperation.
  • The Gatekeeper breaks the protective bubble. The survivors are swept by water but remain unharmed, while the submarine’s equipment and Xia Lun’s recliner are destroyed.
  • Xia Lun realizes Ailot has reached the golden door first. He transforms into blood and teleports toward it, apparently racing her for the Typewriter.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xia Lun remains composed under threat, uses deduction to expose the rivalry, and buys time while secretly moving blood toward the golden door. His concern about White Line persists, but his immediate priority shifts to beating Ailot to the Typewriter.
  • Ailot is revealed as one half of the conflict behind the Scenario. She admits her alliance with the Gatekeeper ended when they discovered that only one could escape, and she secretly competes with Xia Lun for the Typewriter.
  • The Gatekeeper is revealed as Ailot’s rival and the force behind the Scenario’s disrupted clues. It initially protects the submarine, but turns hostile when Xia Lun challenges its authority and refuses its demands.
  • Carson reacts with terror to the breach and the Gatekeeper, serving as an observer of the group’s peril and Xia Lun’s unusual calm.
  • Aislin is frightened by the talk of sacrifice and nearly falls under the Gatekeeper’s hypnotic gaze. Xia Lun’s clap snaps her out of it, and Roman shields her.
  • Manhunter taunts Ailot after surviving the breach, but quickly becomes overwhelmed by the Gatekeeper’s horrific appearance.

Significant themes

  • Deception and divided control: The Scenario’s inconsistencies reflect a struggle between two powers, rather than a single omnipotent “Screenwriter.”
  • Survival and sacrifice: The group’s journey was engineered to make them offerings for reopening the door.
  • Power, pride, and negotiation: The Gatekeeper expects submission, while Xia Lun resists and attempts to turn the confrontation into a deal.
  • Competing ambitions: Ailot and the Gatekeeper—and now Xia Lun—are all drawn toward the Typewriter and the possibility of escape.

Ch. 482Mental collapse

Key plot points and events

  • Xia Lun beheads Ailot’s apparent human form, then uses Final Ash to burn her through an “echo.” The flames spread through the mirage-crystal vein, revealing that the vein is Ailot’s true body.
  • The fire also strikes the Gatekeeper, badly burning it. Ailot tries to persuade the Gatekeeper to cooperate against Xia Lun, but it realizes the sacrifices are still alive and the golden doors remain sealed.
  • The survivors endure the deep-sea assault; Manhunter’s severed arm regenerates. Xia Lun then casually kicks open the supposedly inaccessible doors to Dreamland.
  • Beyond them lies the Zi Gong Labyrinth, a maze of impossible stairways leading to a shrine and the amber Typewriter. Ailot knows how to navigate it and races inside to claim the prize.
  • Unable to destroy Ailot’s resilient true body quickly, Xia Lun attacks her mind with Life Drain, then Aura of Fear. When her stress breaks a second time, she collapses and shatters into crystals; the entire crystal vein disintegrates with her.

Character developments

  • Xia Lun displays increasingly overwhelming and unconventional powers, shifting from physical attacks to fire and psychological assault. He remains focused and adapts quickly under pressure.
  • Ailot is revealed as a cunning, highly survivable being whose true body is the crystal vein, but she is poor at direct combat and vulnerable to mental collapse. Her desperation to reach the Typewriter exposes her fear.
  • The Gatekeeper is physically formidable but confused and easily outmaneuvered. Its former reliance on Ailot’s intelligence is undermined by their rivalry.
  • Manhunter demonstrates striking regenerative ability, reinforcing the survivors’ resilience.

Significant themes

  • Mind as a battlefield: Mental health and stress can be lethal, even to supernatural entities.
  • Adaptation and unconventional power: Xia Lun overcomes physical defenses by exploiting vulnerabilities rather than relying on brute force.
  • Rivalry and unstable alliances: Ailot and the Gatekeeper’s shared interests cannot overcome their competition for the Typewriter.
  • Reality defying expectations: The doors open with a simple kick, while the labyrinth’s impossible geometry hints at deeper supernatural forces.

Character interactions

  • Ailot urges the Gatekeeper to stop fighting her and join forces against Xia Lun, but the Gatekeeper’s confusion and concern for the still-living sacrifices derail her plan.
  • Xia Lun’s attacks directly disrupt Ailot’s attempt to manipulate the Gatekeeper and seize the Typewriter.
  • The Gatekeeper turns to crush the Submarine, but Xia Lun’s sudden opening of the doors interrupts it; Ailot then makes a final run for the Typewriter before Xia Lun brings her down.

Ch. 483The end!

Xia Lun killed the Gatekeeper after it raced to the Typewriter in a desperate attempt to rewrite the Scenario, then drained it and claimed the Typewriter. As the Scenario reached its epilogue and Xia Lun prepared to write, the other survivors arrived.

  • After Ailot died, Xia Lun suppressed his excitement about the Gatekeeper and waited as the Gatekeeper realized it could still reach the Typewriter.
  • The Gatekeeper charged Xia Lun, but Xia Lun wounded it and let himself become blood mist so he could parasitize its body and cross the Zi Gong Labyrinth.
  • The Gatekeeper reached the Typewriter and discovered that the Scenario had changed, but Xia Lun revealed himself and prevented it from summoning Dreamland’s ruler.
  • The Gatekeeper cursed Xia Lun and the survivors, but Xia Lun killed it with Night Plume and drained it, gaining nine months of lifespan and 1,600 Memory Points.
  • Xia Lun sat before the Typewriter as its Scenario text changed to the epilogue, then discovered that the other survivors had gathered behind him.

Ch. 484Circular Narrative!

After defeating the Gatekeeper, Xia Lun learned that the survivors would disappear when the Scenario ended and tried to use the Typewriter to save them. With time running out, he began writing a circular narrative to keep the story going.

  • Carson explained that the survivors had released the Wheel of Moxie and used its teleportation to reach the Golden Gate, while Roman had guided them through the Zi Gong Labyrinth.
  • Xia Lun realized Roman was essential to the Scenario’s conventional solutions and told the survivors that Code 18’s derivative beings would vanish when the story ended.
  • Xia Lun’s attempt to write that everyone would live happily forever failed because it violated the Typewriter’s logic, leaving fewer blank lines as the Scenario continued writing itself.
  • Roman offered to give Aislin her chance to escape, but Manhunter condemned the idea and Roman demanded that someone provide another solution.
  • Xia Lun declared he had found a solution and typed a circular narrative that repeated the pavilion scene and its question.

Ch. 485The story's aftermath

Xia Lun secured the survivors’ existence in an endless Circular Narrative, then completed the 90-day survival objective and returned home. Over immeasurable time, the survivors endured the loop until a mysterious sigh caused the Typewriter to restore them and send them back to their realities, leaving the Scenario unfinished.

  • Xia Lun trapped the Wheel of Moxie in the Typewriter’s looping script and organized the survivors to bring the Submarine and supplies to the pavilion.
  • Xia Lun studied the Star-Guiding Moon-Drawing Geomantic Secret Art, improved his ritual specialization, and spent the remaining days cooking for the survivors.
  • Xia Lun completed the 90-day objective and disappeared, leaving Roman to lead the survivors through the endless loop.
  • The survivors grew weary of eternal repetition, but Manhunter rallied them to keep living by treating hope as their new goal.
  • The survivors began fading; Aislin confessed she had not escaped the Bioelectric Object Containment Site before they all vanished.
  • A mysterious sigh prompted the Typewriter to declare that remembering brought them back to life and returned them to their own realities.
