Background

Son Wuling was originally Ling Yuxing, an individual who transmigrated into the Dragon Ball world as an infant. He was found and raised by Son Gohan, becoming Son Goku’s younger adopted brother despite Goku often behaving more like the younger sibling. Gohan knew Wuling’s secret from the beginning through Mind Reading and later guided him toward Fortuneteller Baba’s Soul Techniques to protect that secret from other telepaths 85 135 136.

He grew up alongside Goku, traveling with Bulma in search of the Dragon Balls, training under Master Roshi, entering World Martial Arts Tournaments, and fighting the Red Ribbon Army. During an early confrontation with Tao Pai Pai, Wuling created the Destructo Disc, decapitated Tao, and later helped Goku destroy the Red Ribbon Army headquarters 1 15.

A defining trauma was witnessing Goku, while transformed into a Great Ape, accidentally trample Son Gohan to death. The event fed Wuling’s resentment toward Saiyans and drove his determination to become powerful without changing his Earthling bloodline 72.
