Background
Natasha was a Red Room-trained agent and assassin who escaped Dreykov's control. She believed Dreykov and the Red Room had been destroyed after an earlier operation with Clint Barton, then served as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent under Nick Fury. Dreykov later identifies her as his former “runaway girl,” while Natasha's reunion with Melina confirms their foster-mother and daughter bond 95 96.
She first approaches Richard under the name Natalia, posing as a legal applicant for his Long Beach laboratory. Richard exposes her identity at once and reveals that Dreykov is alive, forcing Natasha to confront the possibility that Fury had concealed the truth from both her and Clint 86 87.
Appearance
Natasha is a red-haired woman with gray eyes. In civilian cover, she can present herself as a polished businesswoman or legal professional; as the Black Widow, her demeanor becomes cold, composed, and mission-focused 86 87 138.
After bonding with the Hell Dimension Heart, her appearance changes drastically:
- Blood-red eyes and crimson hair with flame-like tips.
- Glowing red facial and body markings that circulate blood-colored energy.
- Demonic horns, a red succubus tail, and a body wreathed in Hell Demon Fire.
- A larger sovereign form, with her height stated to have doubled after assuming Hell's throne 483 484.
Personality
Natasha is observant, pragmatic, and disciplined. She is wary of promises, evaluates threats quickly, and relies on deception or intimidation rather than conventional notions of honorable combat when a mission demands it 310 330 331.
Her loyalty is deeply personal. Dreykov's survival destabilizes her faith in S.H.I.E.L.D., while Fury's pressure through Clint's sponsorship ultimately drives her to reject his authority entirely 89 106. She is protective of Yelena and Clint, though this often manifests through sharp reprimands, concern, or decisive intervention 135 257.
As Hell's ruler, Natasha becomes notably more confident and politically calculating. She uses overwhelming force, staged displays of mercy, and fear of punishment to make the Greater Demons submit, while retaining a more playful and affectionate side around Richard 484 485 488 489.

- Yelena Belova — Her younger foster sister. Natasha is fiercely protective but frequently punishes Yelena's impulsiveness; the two fight effectively as a team 97 257 318.
- Melina Vostokoff — Foster mother and former Red Room scientist. They reunite after Dreykov's death and work toward freeing the Widows from pheromone control 96 97.
- Clint Barton / Hawkeye — Trusted comrade with a sibling-like bond. Natasha credits Richard with helping her resolve the Dreykov matter and remains concerned for Clint's family and safety 135 140.

- Iron Mane — Minotaur lord who submits early and is later appointed commander of the Minotaur Legion 485 489.
- Axel — Leader of the Thorn Demon Legion. Natasha accepts Axel's surrender and orders her to expand the legion's influence 487 489.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Exposure of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Red Room
Richard's revelation that Dreykov survived pushes Natasha to investigate her past independently. Fury orders her to infiltrate Stark Industries instead, using Clint's sponsorship to compel obedience, but Natasha increasingly trusts Richard's information over Fury's assurances 87 89 91.
Natasha is captured after locating Melina, taken to the Sky Fortress, and confronted by Dreykov. White Queen enables her rescue; Natasha personally shoots Dreykov, ending his control over her and beginning the Red Room's reform under Richard 94 95 96.
Defection and Rebuilding the Red Room
Natasha openly breaks with Fury after accusing him of lying about Dreykov and treating her as a disposable operative. She remains at the Sky Fortress, helps locate Yelena, and works with Melina on liberating the remaining Widows 106 134.
After Maria Hill joins Richard's organization, Natasha and Clint are assigned to build the Widows into combat squads. Natasha later leads the Crimson Nun Guard during the Harlem crisis, protects Bruce Banner and Abomination, and openly rejects General Ross's military authority 175 228 229.
Divine Realm Dungeon
Natasha and Yelena enter the Rampage Island Dungeon, where Natasha investigates the fractured Lizardmen, Tiger, and Bear tribes. Her caution contrasts with Yelena's impulsive artifact thefts, but the sisters ultimately uncover the Amber Stones and the larger mystery surrounding Hortis 310 315.
She defeats Imogen and Bolenhal through coordinated spatial and wind-based tactics, refuses to massacre Lizardmen civilians, and helps expose the Sunset God's attempt to survive through soul fragments 318 324. After clearing the expanded Divine Realm Dungeon, Natasha chooses three contracts over immediate power rewards and gains Hortis, Serafina, and Bridget as servants 325.
Dark Dimension Reconnaissance
Natasha is accidentally sent into the Silent Corridor, where black mirrors expose her deepest fears. Richard rescues her from the hidden Soul-Eater Banshees, then entrusts her with finding prisoners who once resisted Dormammu 328 329.
In the Molten Iron Wasteland, she infiltrates cursed mechanical workshops, defeats and interrogates Soul-Forger Mendez, and identifies Grand Master Blacksmith Bapros as a potential source of information 330 331. She later agrees to serve as an instructor for the Dormammu Resistance 342.
Ascension as Queen of Hell
Hela identifies Natasha as uniquely connected to a major alteration in fate; Richard suspects this may relate to her original destiny involving the Soul Stone. When Natasha touches the Hell Dimension Heart, she synchronizes with it, her body is destroyed in Hell Demon Fire, and she is reborn as a demonic sovereign 483.
Natasha claims Mephisto's legacy, declares herself Hell's new Lord and Queen, and invites the Greater Demons to challenge her. She defeats or subdues them through raw power, calculated mercy, and public deterrence, then establishes the Minotaur Legion and expands the Thorn Demon Legion under her command 484 485 488 489.
