Background
Transmigrated memories and divided soul
Awen's memories contained knowledge of the future of the shinobi world, including the Fourth Shinobi World War, Madara Uchiha, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, and limited information about the Boruto era. Naruto and Kurama relied on those memories to alter Naruto's early choices and prepare for future threats. 2
His soul was split between worlds: one part was absorbed by Naruto, while Awen's main soul occupied Menma's body in the Limited Tsukuyomi world. Menma's accumulated suffering, persecution, and eventual death left a lasting influence on Awen's fractured existence. 162 211
Limited Tsukuyomi world
In the alternate world, Awen witnessed the destruction of the Land of Demons after Mōryō's defeat. Operating under the identity of the Masked Man, he rescued several hundred survivors and relocated them to safety. Ziyi—the alternate world's Shion—and her people taught him Miko Senjutsu in gratitude. 164
Awen later traveled to the Rōran Ruins seeking a new body and a way to restore Menma. Mōryō, strengthened again by humanity's negative emotions, possessed Awen and killed him before his plan could be completed. Awen escaped through the Spirit Transformation Jutsu and released the alternate Kurama before his death. 211
Resurrection and Menma's closure
Naruto revived Awen with Impure World Reincarnation, then Madara and Hikari returned him to life. Regaining his own body confirmed that he was no longer occupying Menma's body. 211
Awen attempted to summon Menma with Impure World Reincarnation, but the technique failed because Menma had accepted death and had no remaining attachments to the living world. Awen ultimately accepted that Menma had peacefully moved on. 212
Menma was later restored to life through the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique after chakra was extracted by Qian Mao. 257
Appearance
Awen is a handsome black-haired young man with a cold, restrained bearing and an aura described as lifeless or icy after his reincarnation. 211
- His eyes turn violet while using Sage Mode. 162 212
- His revived form wore a black ceremonial robe over red fishnet underclothes. 211
- He has also worn a red casual outfit while disguised in a modern world and a black-and-red trench coat during his confrontation with Kurumi Tokisaki. 249 250
- His Sage Mode chakra can form a transparent purple membrane around his body. 214
Personality
Awen is observant, calculating, and difficult to intimidate. He quickly assesses unfamiliar people and situations, as shown when he deduced Naruto's cross-world arrival immediately after being revived and remained cautious around Uchiha Hikari. 211
He is pragmatic about strength and cooperation. Mōryō's possession and betrayal taught him that isolation is dangerous, leading him to prioritize alliances when entering unfamiliar worlds. 249
Despite his detached manner, Awen is loyal to people he considers allies. He sought to restore Menma, trained Naruto for the fight against Mōryō, and reassured Naruto that their friendship was not a debt to be repaid. 211 214 246
Awen has firm personal boundaries. He can be ruthless in battle, but he avoids unnecessary killing, refuses requests that violate his principles, and insists on honest relationships. 251 253
Abilities & Skills
Miko Senjutsu
Awen's Sage Mode derives from the shrine-maiden Senjutsu taught by Ziyi and the survivors of the alternate Land of Demons.
- His eyes become violet and resemble Shion's while transformed. 162 164
- He can merge chakra with his surroundings through a body-enveloping chakra membrane. 214
- With adequate chakra, the membrane can sustain him in space, underwater, or even within lava. 214
- He and Shion used their Senjutsu chakra to support Kaguya while she maintained a dimensional rift against Mōryō's pressure. 231
Ice Release
Awen possesses Ice Release as his principal elemental ability.
- He can create ice dragons, ice swords, glaciers, and large-scale frozen terrain. 162 212
- Ice Mountain Drawing Jutsu creates or dismisses a massive glacier. 212
- Chain Ice Soul links damage across Kurumi Tokisaki's clones, allowing a wound inflicted on one clone to appear on all of them. 251
- His Ice Release was powerful enough for the AST to classify him as the Spirit “Ice Soul.” 251
Chimera Technique and soul survival
Awen possesses knowledge of the Chimera Technique and other methods involving chakra, souls, and bodily reconstruction.
- He escaped Mōryō's possession through the Spirit Transformation Jutsu after his body was killed. 211
- His collected techniques include the Chimera Technique, Flesh Rebirth, Senjutsu, the Eight Gates, and chakra-refinement methods. 167
- He helped stabilize and connect Naruto's conflicting powers while Naruto developed Six Paths Particles Mode. 227
- Mōryō exploited Awen's reconstructed body and memories to study Naruto and develop its larger plan. 173
Gravity Barrier
Awen invented the Gravity Barrier, a gravity-training chamber that combines Iwagakure techniques, space-time barrier principles, and Minato Namikaze's notes. 167
- A control monument adjusts the barrier's gravity level. 214
- Its purpose is not simply physical conditioning; it forces chakra, organs, tissues, and cells to adapt to extreme environmental pressure. 224 225
- Awen used it to train Naruto's environmental resistance and Sasuke's control of the Curse Mark. 214 224
- Naruto's training under the barrier ultimately contributed to the creation of Six Paths Particles Mode. 227
Strategy and technique research
Awen is a highly capable planner whose knowledge often substitutes for the coalition's lack of raw power against Mōryō.
- He devised the plan to combine Naruto's Baryon Mode chakra link, Hikari's Yachihoko Mark, and Yakumo's Five Senses Illusion inside Mōryō. 214
- He moved the planned battlefield to the moon to prevent Mōryō's defeat from destroying Earth. 221
- He recognized that Mōryō's intelligence could be exploited despite its overwhelming strength. 221
- He prepared contingency Black Hole Oil Paintings with Yakumo, enabling Naruto to escape Asmodeus's time-stopped domain. 241

- Menma — Former body host and divided counterpart. Awen sought to restore him, accepted his peaceful departure, and later reunited with him after Menma's revival. 211 212 257
- Mōryō — Mortal enemy. Mōryō possessed Awen, killed him, used his body and memories, and derailed his plans across multiple worlds. 211 213
- Ziyi — The Limited Tsukuyomi world's Shion. Her people taught Awen Miko Senjutsu after he rescued the Land of Demons survivors. 164

- Megumi Kato — Awen's stated ideal type, drawn to her ordinary and understated appearance amid more conspicuous beauty. 212
Story Role / Major Arcs
- Mōryō's impersonation — Mōryō uses Awen's body and appearance to confront Naruto, leading Naruto and Shion to initially believe that Awen had become consumed by Menma's hatred. Naruto eventually recognizes that the opponent's behavior is inconsistent with the real Awen. 162 165 167
- Revival at the Rōran Ruins — Naruto revives Awen to learn the truth behind Mōryō's actions. Awen's explanation clears the suspicions surrounding his use of Menma's body and establishes him as an ally. 211

- Naruto's mentor — He trains Naruto and Sasuke with the Gravity Barrier, emphasizing environmental resistance, chakra adaptation, and mastery rather than brute strength. 214 224 225
- Lunar battle planner — Awen redirects the final confrontation with Mōryō to the moon, coordinates the barrier strategy, and commands the response when Mōryō's destruction produces seven new entities. 221 232
- Cross-world operative — He travels with Sasuke to the Date A Live world, deliberately reveals his strength to draw out local forces and hidden Sources of Malice, then defeats Leviathan at great personal cost. 249 253
Trivia
