Background / History

Hanabi is Hiashi Hyuga’s younger daughter and Hinata Hyuga’s sister. Hinata deliberately lost to Hanabi in the past so that Hanabi would become the clan’s prospective heir rather than be forced into the branch family and receive the Caged Bird Seal. Hanabi later learned that Hinata had secretly watched Naruto train, and following her sister led Hanabi to meet him for the first time. 172

She met Naruto at the Hyuga compound when he sought Hinata or Neji’s help in learning chakra-point attacks. After hearing his goal, Hanabi unexpectedly offered to train him herself. Hiashi approved the arrangement as part of Hanabi’s development as the future clan heir, while Naruto encouraged her when onlookers laughed at her overly formal teaching manner. 91 92
