Background / History
*Tomorrow’s Star* and Wangran
Fang Huiwang debuted through the talent show Tomorrow’s Star alongside Xie Ran. During the program’s closed-training period, the two shared a dormitory, fell in love, and secretly dated. Their unusually intimate interactions created the original “Wangran” CP fandom. 2
After the competition, both agencies discovered their relationship and ordered them to separate. Fang chose to end the relationship, after which he and Xie did not publicly interact for ten years while their respective fans fought online. 2
In the original timeline, Fang later persuaded Xie to reunite by saying that the breakup had been forced and that he was now powerful enough to protect them. Their revived collaborations made Wangran more popular than before, while Fang leveraged the attention to expand Ambition Studio and enter the business world. When Xie’s sexual orientation was maliciously exposed years later, Fang publicly claimed not to know about it and described them as ordinary friends, abandoning their collaborations as Xie’s career collapsed. 2
Failed Reconciliation
At the New Year’s concert, Fang expected Xie’s agreement to perform with him to lead to a reunion. He prepared a romantic homecoming with balloons, flowers, string lights, champagne, and gifts, but Xie declined the invitation and refused to be swayed by Fang’s preparations. 4 5
Fang’s certainty turned into anger and anxiety when Xie rejected the familiar “Xiao Ran” address and instructed him to use “President Xie” instead. 5 After seeing public criticism of his behavior toward Xie, Fang destroyed the reconciliation setup and retaliated by moving Nangong Xu’s launch to directly conflict with Xie Ran Studio’s virtual-idol event. 5
Virtual-Idol Rivalry
Fang introduced Nangong Xu as a highly realistic singing-and-dancing virtual idol developed with Black Star Technology. Nangong’s polished model, avant-garde styling, guitar, and three-dimensional rendering initially impressed audiences. 8
He and Kuang Youfang attempted to capitalize on controversy surrounding Xie Ran’s launch through paid commenters and comparison campaigns. Their strategy backfired when Meng Feixuan’s technology proved dramatically more advanced than Nangong Xu’s initial presentation. 9 11
The failure of Nangong Xu’s early project caused investors to withdraw, damaged Black Star Technology’s valuation, and contributed to Ambition Studio’s cash-flow crisis. Fang consequently treated reviving Wangran as both a personal and commercial necessity. 15
*Somewhere Else with You*
Fang joined the variety show Somewhere Else with You intending to restore Wangran’s public appeal. He arranged trending topics in advance and planned to frame any reaction from Xie as romantic publicity, but Xie’s detached conduct repeatedly disrupted the campaign. 14 16
During the show’s earning competition, Fang was forced to give Xie half their budget after Xie chose to trade stocks independently. Fang earned $312 through souvenir sales, only to be eclipsed when Xie earned $1,500 through leveraged trading. 19 21 22
Fang also attempted to establish himself as an artist through an online photography vote. His studio used paid accounts to inflate his support, but Xie overtook him, and viewers later found signs of manipulation in Fang’s unusually high vote count. 28 30
On the final night of filming, Fang recreated a famous Tomorrow’s Star surprise performance and sang the show’s theme song for Xie. The gesture made him confront his responsibility for their breakup and his inability to move on, but Xie responded only by criticizing his off-key singing. 37
Career Recovery and Renewed Conflict
Following the show, Fang personally pursued and secured a luxury-brand ambassador role with Lansi. He also proposed remaking Nangong Xu, whose upgraded music video recreated the Tomorrow’s Star stage and featured a duet between Fang and Nangong. The campaign doubled Ambition Studio’s valuation and temporarily reversed Fang’s declining public image. 44 45
Fang continued to use Wangran nostalgia to maintain his association with Xie and to undermine Meng Feixuan. He viewed Nangong as a rival capable of surpassing Meng, despite their fundamentally different technologies. 39 46
As Meng Feixuan’s independent behavior became increasingly evident, Fang began to question whether he was truly a preprogrammed virtual idol. He nevertheless reacted to Meng as both a commercial threat and a personal rival for Xie’s attention. 47 49

Personality
Fang is outwardly charming, considerate, and skilled at performing nostalgia for cameras. He calls Xie “Xiao Ran,” recalls their trainee days in public, and repeatedly frames their relationship as tender and enduring when it benefits the Wangran narrative. 3 15 16
Privately, he is possessive and accustomed to believing that he can control the terms of his relationship with Xie. Xie’s refusal to reconcile leaves Fang disoriented because he had assumed that pursuing Xie would naturally restore his influence. 4 7 He can respond to humiliation with anger, sabotage, or attempts to manipulate public opinion rather than direct accountability. 5 9 39
Fang’s feelings toward Xie remain conflicted. He carries genuine memories, regret, and lingering affection, but these are repeatedly entangled with resentment, ambition, and a desire to reclaim his former status. 20 31 37 His hostility toward Meng Feixuan further reveals his insecurity: he is unsettled by Xie’s easy rapport with Meng and reacts defensively to the idea of being replaced by a virtual idol. 47 49
