Background / History

In the scenario’s backstory, Professor Lu attended middle school with Doctor Zhen. He fell in love with Zhen but was too timid to intervene when Brother Hao and others bullied him. His inaction left him with lasting guilt and self-loathing; he was neither Doctor Zhen’s protector nor the anonymous person who encouraged him during school. 34 35

A diagnosis of cellular carcinoma, with an estimated six months to live, pushed Professor Lu into reckless action. After learning Doctor Zhen’s hidden secret—the truth of Doctor Zhen’s divided identity and revenge murders—he intended to take responsibility for those crimes and kill Ying De before Doctor Zhen could do so. 35 41

Professor Lu stole Doctor Zhen’s combined Class A and Class B poison, mistaking it for a sedative. Ying De later drank the poisoned water while checking whether the others had been drugged; he died before Lu returned. The original Professor Lu is timid, insecure, and burdened by self-hatred. His love for Doctor Zhen does not make him courageous; instead, it initially causes him to withdraw further from the person he loves.
