Background

Cloudstream Flying Shadow was formerly owned by Li Jianming. Purchased for 800,000, she managed only two wins from ten starts and struggled in Central racing; her original breeding ranch's bankruptcy also left Li without assistance in selling her. Despite her pedigree, poor form, and age made her difficult to place on the market. 14

Zhang Jun identified the cause of much of her poor record: she possessed exceptional turf aptitude but had been repeatedly entered in short dirt races. Her lone turf attempt had been over 1,200 meters, a distance he suspected was also unsuitable. Recognizing both racing and breeding value, he bought her for 160,000. 14

Following the ownership transfer, Zhang placed her under Lin Zhi's care, had her previous Central and Local registrations cancelled, and transferred her stable affiliation. Lin Zhi's testing confirmed Zhang's judgment that she was a turf specialist. 15
