Background

Jiang Ming’s memories encompass three lives: an original life on Earth, a life in the world of Chinese Paladin 1, and his present life in Shrouding the Heavens. In his second life, he became a demon after tragedy and eventually reached the Earth Immortal realm; those memories fully awakened only when he nearly died in his current life. 1 3

At thirteen, Jiang Ming joined Smoke Glow Grotto-Heaven after his cultivation talent was discovered. He later married Gu Lingzhi, the Smoke Glow Fairy, and they had a daughter, Jiang Tingting. 1

Jiang Ming and Lingzhi entered the Primordial Ruins to obtain the Three Yin Cold Lotus for Tingting’s cultivation foundation. The Li Family secretly marked the couple and used a rare drug to provoke exotic beasts; during the resulting beast riot, Jiang Ming shielded Lingzhi from the Lightning Birds, but she was annihilated by lightning. 1 2

The Heavenly Calamity Lone Star System activated after Lingzhi’s death and fused the Heavenly Tyrant Body into Jiang Ming. His grief, rage, and resentment awakened a black lotus at his brow and vast demonic energy within his soul, beginning his struggle against becoming consumed by demonic obsession. 1 3

Believing his fate endangers anyone close to him, Jiang Ming allowed Smoke Glow Grotto-Heaven to believe he had gone mad rather than return to his father and daughter. He rebuilt his strength in secret, adopted the public identity of the Western Desert monk Sanzang, and began exploiting his knowledge of future events, cultivation inheritances, and the system’s rewards. 3 14

Jiang Ming is the grandson of Jiang Zhe, a descendant of God-King Jiang Taixu’s lineage. Although the Jiang Family had previously neglected Jiang Zhe’s descendants, its elders later sought to bring Jiang Ming, Jiang Tang, and Jiang Tingting back into the family and recognize their bloodline. 84 136

After obtaining the Hengyu Scripture and being accepted by the Jiang Family, Jiang Ming rose from the infamous “Eastern Demon” to the widely acknowledged Eastern Emperor. Jiang Ming is pragmatic, calculating, and deeply suspicious of fate, the system, and the cultivation world’s power structures. He regularly adopts false identities, feigns weakness, and turns hostile encounters into resources, yet he avoids indiscriminate killing and insists that demonic cultivation must not erase one’s humanity. 3 12 27

The deaths of Lingzhi, Nü Yuan, Wan’er, Elder Lei, and others left him emotionally unstable and divided by the obsessions of his three lives. Rather than deny his grief and demonic nature, he accepts both as part of himself and resolves to pursue his own Dao. 36 45 48
