Background

Yu Xiaogang is the son of Yu Yuanzhen, the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s leader. His flawed martial soul prevented him from attaining the strength expected of his clan background, leaving him at level 29 despite his reputation as a “Grandmaster” of Soul Master theory 5 25.

At Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy, he maintains connections with the headmaster and spends time researching in the library. He intervenes when the academy gate guard humiliates Lin Yue, Tang San, and Old Jack, dismissing the guard and threatening to report him 4.

After learning that Lin Yue and Tang San possess Innate Full Soul Power, Yu Xiaogang resolves to take them as disciples. His private motive is to use their potential achievements to restore his own reputation as a theoretical master 4.

His desire to mentor gifted children is mixed with self-interest. He sees Tang San and Lin Yue as a means to prove his theories and reclaim recognition from those who once dismissed him 4 10. Even after Tang Yin repeatedly rejects him, he interprets her hostility as the pride expected of a genius and continues seeking ways to recruit her 10.

Conflict over Tang Yin’s Development

He repeatedly argues that Blue Silver Grass is inherently weak and should be strengthened through poison-attribute spirit rings. Lin Yue rejects this approach, prioritizing the martial soul’s life-oriented potential and Tang Yin’s long-term growth 20.

Yu Xiaogang’s errors become increasingly public after he dismisses the Jade Bamboo Grove and fails to recognize its interconnected root system. Tang Yin later proves the effectiveness of her nearly seven-hundred-year Jade Bamboo Grove spirit ring by using Growth to bind him effortlessly 21 23.

Soul Hunting Forest Crisis

When the Red Flood Dragon Blood Lizard overwhelms Su Yan, Yu Xiaogang attempts to protect Tang Yin despite his fear. He survives after Lin Yue and Tang Yin conceal the true circumstances of the monster’s defeat with restorative potions and a fabricated explanation 25 27.

Continued Obsession with Tang Yin

After Tang Yin’s absorption of the Life Marrow Spirit Bone evolves her Blue Silver Grass, Yu Xiaogang obsessively documents her changes as evidence for new martial-soul-evolution theories. He remains determined to become her teacher despite her continued indifference and hostility 31 35.
