Background / History

Life Before Nuoding Academy

Xiao Wu originally lived as a hundred-thousand-year soul beast in Star Dou Forest before taking human form. Her mother died during a mass soul-hunting operation. Xiao Wu initially knew only that human Soul Masters were responsible; during her later journey with Lin Yue and Tang Yin, she learns that the attackers belonged to Spirit Hall and that Bibi Dong was responsible for her mother’s death 8 97 98.

Dorm Seven and the Academy Rivalry

On arriving at Dorm Seven, Xiao Wu announces that she will become its boss. The exhausted Lin Yue yields the position without fighting, but her demand for his and Tang San’s quilt provokes Tang San into challenging her. Xiao Wu gains the advantage before the encounter ends with her crashing onto Lin Yue. She subsequently shares their quilt, with Tang San insisting on sleeping between them 8 9.

Xiao Wu repeatedly defeats Tang San in their early spars. After Tang San changes her name to Tang Yin and obtains her first Spirit Ring, however, their rivalry reverses. Xiao Wu challenges Lin Yue for the academy boss position, only for Tang Yin to intercept her and win using reinforced, Soul-Power-absorbing Blue Silver Grass. Their quarrel quickly subsides when Lin Yue tells them about Spirit Hall’s monthly allowance 20 28 34 35.

Return to Star Dou Forest

Concerned about falling behind her companions, Xiao Wu joins their journey toward Star Dou Forest. She hopes to recover medicinal plants her mother cultivated and obtain help from Da Ming and Er Ming. Before separating from the group, she asks Lin Yue and Tang Yin to help avenge her mother; their agreement becomes a turning point in her trust in them 96 98.

Xiao Wu leaves the inn at night with a note and reunites with Er Ming. Di Tian intercepts them and takes her to the Lake of Life because she carries traces of an aura familiar to Gu Yuena. Despite being threatened, choked, and nearly rendered unconscious, Xiao Wu refuses to identify Lin Yue or Tang Yin. Gu Yuena eventually stops Di Tian and orders her release 98 99.

The encounter strengthens Xiao Wu’s attachment to her human companions. She contrasts their willingness to help her with the powerful soul beasts who, in her view, did nothing when her mother died 99 112.

Medicinal Cultivation and Zi JI’s Pressure

Xiao Wu returns with a satchel of medicinal treasures. Lin Yue refines them into Spirit Herb Potions and also gives her an Immortal Herb Potion containing Narcissus Jade-Muscle Bone. She remains in Nuoding City rather than accompanying him and Tang Yin to Heaven Dou Imperial City 112 113.

Zi JI instructs Xiao Wu to cultivate Lin Yue’s sympathy toward soul beasts. Over the next three years, this develops into pressure to behave more intimately toward him. Zi JI eventually threatens Da Ming and Er Ming to make Xiao Wu wear clothes she finds embarrassing 112 128 129.

When Lin Yue and Tang Yin return, they recognize her discomfort and offer reassurance rather than ridicule. Xiao Wu refuses to name the person coercing her, believing her friends cannot defeat Zi JI. Lin Yue’s consideration nevertheless causes her friendship with him to begin developing into romantic affection 129 130.

Appearance

Xiao Wu is unusually tall for her apparent age, with fair skin, a lively expression, and a long scorpion-tail braid 8.

• Hair: Her braid initially reaches her knees; after the later three-year interval, it is described as reaching her buttocks 8 129.
• Build: Distinguished by long, straight legs and an agile physique 8 34.
• Martial Soul Possession: Gains pink-and-white rabbit ears, a ruby-like gleam in her eyes, and additional height 34.

Personality

Xiao Wu is energetic, boastful, and eager to establish herself through fighting. She frequently calls herself “Sister Xiao Wu,” readily challenges stronger-looking opponents, and initially treats dorm leadership as permission to demand others’ belongings. Her enthusiasm for carrots, pastries, and free allowance money also makes her easy to distract from a quarrel 8 33 35 46.

Her competitive pride becomes a genuine drive to improve when Lin Yue and Tang Yin begin outpacing her. Although she feels inferior as the weakest member of their trio, she responds by cultivating harder and seeking medicinal resources rather than abandoning the effort 96.

Beneath her playful manner, Xiao Wu is fiercely loyal. Once her companions agree to help avenge her mother, she considers them friends she can trust with her life and refuses to betray them even under Di Tian’s torture. Her later silence about Zi JI likewise comes from fear for her friends and concern for Da Ming and Er Ming, rather than willing cooperation 98 99 129.
