"Taotie Douluo's fists truly weren't so easy to take."
His voice was hoarse, yet carried a trace of cold laughter.
"Still, I'm a level ninety-seven Super Douluo.
For you to take me down with just a few punches and kicks, you're underestimating me too much."
Instead of getting angry, Chen Xuan laughed.
"Fine." He slammed his fists together, and earth-yellow Soul Power surged up like flames. "Then this old man would like to see how many hits you can withstand!"
Before his words had faded, his body shot forward as he pounced again.
This time, Chen Xuan no longer relied solely on his fists. His first soul ring lit up, and earth-yellow Soul Power exploded beneath Duanmu Yao's feet.
The ground suddenly split apart, and over a dozen mud-and-stone tentacles burst from the earth, coiling around Duanmu Yao's legs like chains.
Duanmu Yao reacted with incredible speed. With a flap of his wings, he soared into the air.
His second soul skill, Harrier Feather Blade, activated at the same time. Dozens of gray-black feather blades shot toward Chen Xuan like a torrential downpour.
Chen Xuan neither dodged nor evaded. His third soul ring lit up.
The power of the earth surged forth, condensing into a heavy stone wall before him.
Every feather blade embedded itself in the wall, black energy scattering in all directions, yet not one of them could harm Chen Xuan in the slightest.
"Tricks of no consequence." Chen Xuan shouted coldly as his fourth soul ring lit up.
Duanmu Yao suddenly felt a crushing weight descend upon his head. A terrifying force of gravity slammed down, making even the air emit a dull hum.
Duanmu Yao's body plunged sharply downward. He beat his wings desperately, barely stopping himself from smashing straight into the ground.
Immediately afterward, Chen Xuan's fifth soul ring lit up as well.
The sky abruptly darkened. Countless earth-yellow spheres of light fell like meteors, blanketing the heavens and earth—an area-wide earth-element bombardment straight from Xuanzi's original arsenal.
Duanmu Yao's expression changed drastically.
He drew in his wings, and his seventh soul ring shone with brilliance once more. A gray-black Soul Power barrier emerged from his true body, wrapping him tightly from head to toe.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
The earth-element light spheres crashed against the barrier, blasting black energy into violent waves.
Duanmu Yao was bombarded backward again and again, while dense cracks spread across the barrier.
When the final sphere of light fell, the barrier shattered with a thunderous crash.
Duanmu Yao fell from midair, spitting out a mouthful of black blood.
Chen Xuan gave him no chance to catch his breath. His body flashed like lightning, closing the distance in an instant as he threw a punch.
Duanmu Yao barely twisted aside, but the force of the punch grazed his left wing.
The sound of shattering bones rang clearly through the night wind.
He could no longer hold on. His entire body was blasted away, smashing through a section of the city wall before barely coming to a stop.
"Cough—!"
Duanmu Yao crawled out of the rubble. Half of one wing hung limply at his side, while black blood continuously spilled from the corner of his mouth.
Chen Xuan landed before him and said coldly, "What, can you still stand?"
Duanmu Yao gave a miserable laugh. "Of course. Otherwise, how could I drag you down with me?" Chen Xuan's gaze sharpened as he abruptly turned around.
Four auras were rapidly approaching through the northern night sky.
The foremost was cold and sharp, like a night owl cutting through the air. It was hardly any weaker than Duanmu Yao's.
The second was somewhat weaker, yet it was equally saturated with sinister energy. It was clearly at the Super Douluo level as well.
Behind them were two weaker auras, seemingly two elders who had only recently entered the Titled Douluo rank.
These two were none other than Dark Thunder Douluo and Nether Douluo, who had driven Huo Yuhao into a desperate situation in the original story and indirectly caused Wang Qiu'er's death.
Chen Xuan stared into the darkness. He was briefly stunned before his heart gave a sudden jolt.
Damn, were these people holding a group meeting at Shrek?
One level ninety-seven, one level ninety-five, plus two Titled Douluo elders.
And then there was Gray Harrier before him, along with Ghost Blade Douluo, who was holding back two senior elders.
There were six Titled Douluos in total. They were really showing Taotie Douluo some respect.
Chen Xuan inwardly grumbled. He had thought he was merely investigating some embezzlement and casually trying to hook a big fish.
Yet he had hooked the fish, only to find an entire school of sharks following behind it.
Mu En isn't even dead yet, and they already dared to be this arrogant? But when he recalled that they had dared to steal Ma Xiaotao under Mu En's nose in the original story, he immediately understood.
When had these lunatics from the evil cult ever cared about reason?
Yet no matter how turbulent his thoughts were, none of it showed on his face.
He slowly turned around, placing his back toward the north as he looked once more at Duanmu Yao, who was half-kneeling amid the rubble.
The night wind whipped his graying hair into a frenzy. His level ninety-eight Soul Power no longer held back, crashing outward like an invisible mountain.
"There are quite a few ghosts coming." His voice suddenly turned icy, like cold iron striking together. "I never expected you dogs to actually grow into something."
Duanmu Yao did not answer. He merely laughed softly, black blood spilling from his mouth along with the laughter.
Chen Xuan no longer looked at him and strode toward the edge of the city wall.
With every step he took, the ground beneath his feet trembled more violently.
The Godly Taotie Bull martial soul flickered behind him, while earth-yellow light burned around his body like flames.
He looked toward the darkness in the north as it drew nearer and nearer. His voice was not loud, yet it made the entire stretch of city wall hum.
"But this is Shrek. You crooked lot think you can cause trouble here?"
His words sounded forceful, but his mind was calculating at high speed.
There are so many of them. It probably won't be easy for me alone to keep them all here.
But that's fine. Shrek isn't made up of this old man alone.
The commotion here is so huge that Mu En and the others can't possibly have missed it.
Old Song, Yan Shaozhe, and the others are probably already on their way.
At that thought, his confidence grew by several degrees.
Once everyone gets here, we'll see who's surrounding whom.
Chen Xuan clenched both fists, and earth-yellow Soul Power surged like raging waves, shooting straight into the night sky.
"Since you're here, then stay!"
His body shot forward, heading directly for the weakest among them, Dark Thunder Douluo.
Dark Thunder Douluo only saw a blur before an earth-yellow fist shadow had already smashed toward him.
He hastily released his martial soul. Black-purple lightning exploded before him as he tried to force Chen Xuan back.
But Chen Xuan did not retreat at all.
His third soul ring flashed, and the power of the earth gathered across his body. He forced his way through the lightning and slammed a punch into Dark Thunder Douluo's chest.
"Pfft—!"
Dark Thunder Douluo was sent flying. His breastbone shattered completely as he crashed heavily into the city wall, never rising again.
With one strike, a Titled Douluo had been crippled. He would no longer have the chance to act recklessly as he had in the original story.
But just as Chen Xuan was about to turn and cripple Nether Douluo as well, the level ninety-seven consecrator and the level ninety-five consecrator struck at the same time.
You Ming Douluo also let out a strange cry. With his Nether Sword martial soul fully unleashed, he charged out from the flank alongside Duanmu Yao.
The four of them pounced simultaneously, tangling Chen Xuan up in an instant.
Chen Xuan snorted coldly. The Heaven-Mending Light Barrier protected his body as he battled all four of them at once.
The level ninety-seven consecrator's martial soul was a Three-Eyed Ghost Jackal. He was incredibly fast, his poisonous claws vicious as they focused on attacking Chen Xuan's lower body.
The level ninety-five consecrator moved unpredictably, his twin claws coated in poison as he harassed Chen Xuan from the side.
Gray Harrier and Nether Douluo relied on their speed, launching repeated sneak attacks from above and behind.
The five of them descended into a chaotic melee. Chen Xuan fought one against four and was temporarily held back.
But this was exactly what he had been waiting for.
