The academy was named by its founding dean, Flender, after the legendary ferocious beast Shrek. According to Mu En, continental records preserved legends of this beast for ten thousand years, describing it as a creature with an exceptional affinity for space 97.

When Chen Xuan became actively involved in academy affairs, he found that Inner Court students had been assigned missions far beyond their strength, often without adequate supervision or equipment. He reclassified missions, required higher-ranked leaders for dangerous assignments, mandated Soul Tool supplies, and ordered the Legion to reimburse necessary equipment at market price 3.

A subsequent financial investigation exposed embezzled pensions, fraudulent death benefits, inflated procurement costs, and inferior military equipment within the Inquisitorial Legion. Shrek suspended the Legion’s field missions for two years, began a full audit, and redirected the organization toward retraining and Soul Tool integration 13.

The academy later uncovered Evil Soul Master infiltration among its personnel, including Inner Court stewards and an Outer Court logistics supervisor. Chen Xuan’s preliminary inquiries enabled a wider purge that captured five Titled Douluo, over twenty Soul Douluo, and numerous lower-ranked collaborators; those found guilty were publicly executed beside Sea God Lake 21 29.

The transformation of the Golden Ancient Tree subsequently renewed Shrek’s cultivation environment and strengthened its senior leadership. This resurgence allowed the academy to move from internal recovery and institutional restructuring to leading a continent-wide offensive against Evil Soul Masters, while also implementing educational exchanges with the Sun Moon Empire 59 61 63 95.

Governance

Cai Mei’er’s later administration remained severely understaffed despite the earlier faculty reforms. A veteran of the Inquisitorial Legion appointed as vice dean was experienced in field operations but ineffective at paperwork, leaving Cai and Director Du to handle much of the department’s work. The incoming exchange delegation and the demands of the anti-Evil Soul Master campaign further strained available personnel 87 91.

Mission Safety and Legion Audit

Chen Xuan imposed a new mission system after finding Inner Court students deployed against opponents far above their level.

Soul Tool Modernization

Shrek previously allocated roughly seventy percent of its funding and most promising students to the Martial Soul Department, leaving the Soul Tool Department with reduced funding and weaker recruitment prospects. Chen Xuan challenged this arrangement, arguing that Shrek could not ignore the Sun Moon Empire’s advanced military Soul Tools 5.

Inner Court students studying Soul Tools were provided equipment and materials free of charge, with the Treasure Gathering Pavilion covering shortfalls. The six recruited engineers were promised admission to the Sea God Pavilion if they reached the ninth level and served Shrek for twenty years 29.

The initial training exposed the students’ weak technical foundations: repeated practical failures caused explosions and damaged equipment at the testing grounds. The recruited engineers nevertheless continued instruction, while students persisted despite setbacks 35 36 38.

Faculty Reform

The purge of corrupt personnel left Shrek with seven vacant Inner Court instructor positions and more than ten vacant Outer Court class-supervisor posts. To prevent disruption to student education, Shrek adopted temporary staffing measures 39.

Mu En placed Chen Xuan in overall charge, with Yan Shaozhe and Xian Lin’er assisting implementation, Lin Huiqun coordinating industries and merchant relocation, and Song Yunzhi monitoring the Legion’s defenses 40 41.

Sun Moon Educational Exchange

Chen Xuan initially proposed exchanges to address Shrek’s technological disadvantage, rejecting the argument that learning from the Sun Moon Empire necessarily constituted collusion with an enemy. He emphasized that Shrek was an independent power rather than an enforcer subordinate to the three empires. These advantages influenced his decision to send Song Yu, Huan Hongchen, and Yun there 89 90.

Firmament Tribunal

The Firmament Tribunal replaced the abolished Shrek Inquisitorial Legion as a continent-wide organization intended to combat Evil Soul Masters and regulate major powers. Its name reflects Shrek’s stated position that “under heaven, all things and all forces may be judged” 46.

The Tribunal was designed to end Shrek’s unilateral responsibility for continental security. Powers seeking protection against Evil Soul Masters would be expected to contribute funding and manpower rather than depend on Shrek without cost 41 46 48.

Universal awakening also gives participating powers priority access to newly discovered talents. As the program began producing candidates, information was sent to Shrek for factional decisions, while recruitment claims required resource declarations to the Tribunal 48 84 85.

The awakening initiative brought Ma Xiaotao to Shrek as Yan Shaozhe’s disciple. Her Evil Fire Phoenix Martial Soul and innate full Soul Power attracted his attention during the awakening proceedings; he subsequently brought the six-year-old to Shrek City, where Cai Mei’er helped welcome her 86 87.

Following the Legion’s withdrawal from the three empires, Evil Soul Masters resumed attacks on villages, border towns, and inland settlements. After Mu En’s recovery and Chen Xuan’s breakthrough, Shrek used the Firmament Tribunal to call a continent-wide campaign against Evil Soul Masters. Major sects, the empires, Illustrious Virtue Hall, Soul Engineer corps, healers, and Titled Douluo answered the summons 63 64.

Shrek committed its accumulated Soul Bones, spirit herbs, medicinal pills, cultivation techniques, and other treasures as war supplies, supplemented by allied contributions. Mu En further guaranteed protection of legitimately earned spoils, declaring those who preyed on combatants’ rewards enemies of Shrek and subject to Tribunal punishment 65.

As the coalition prepared to assault the Holy Spirit Cult in the Evil Demon Forest, Mu En ordered an all-out attack to begin in three days. Xian Lin’er and Elder Feng joined Jing Hongchen’s group at the frontline after ensuring Shrek’s exchange students and instructors were settled at Illustrious Virtue Hall. Their participation was conditional on obeying Mu En’s command and avoiding reckless independent action 98.

Following the final battle in the Evil Demon Forest, Yan Shaozhe visited Di Tian on Mu En’s behalf. He reported the battle, the Demon Empress’s intervention to rescue them, and abnormalities affecting the continent’s origin 109.
