Lu Yun was an Inner Court disciple of Shrek Academy who received Chen Xuan’s instruction in wilderness survival. After leaving Shrek, he returned to the Heaven Dou Empire and became responsible for guarding its southern border. During a nighttime patrol of Azure Mist City, he sensed Chen Xuan’s concealed Soul Power, investigated the disturbance, and recognized his former teacher. 23

Though Lu Yun initially described himself as a newly advanced Titled Douluo with an unstable foundation, Chen Xuan agreed to guide his cultivation. Their reunion developed into a close mentor-junior relationship, with Lu Yun arranging Chen Xuan’s lodging and leisure while eagerly seeking instruction. 23 24 27

Chen Xuan subsequently encouraged him to seek instruction from Song Yunzhi, whose agility-attack expertise suited his martial soul. By the departure for the Sun Moon Empire, Lu Yun had remained at Shrek, become an Outer Pavilion elder, and entered Elder Song’s direct tutelage. He credited Chen Xuan with creating the opportunity that allowed him to reach Rank 92. 35 65

Personality

Lu Yun is deeply respectful toward Chen Xuan, addressing him formally and treating any personal guidance as an exceptional opportunity. He is ambitious without being prideful: after reaching the Titled Douluo realm, he openly seeks help for his cultivation bottlenecks and accepts harsh criticism without resentment. 24 27 31

He is also perceptive and socially adept. He quickly recognized Chen Xuan’s concealed interest in the Azure Mist River pleasure boats, arranged an extravagant evening for him, and ensured that the Boat Master understood the consequences of inadequate service. 23 24

Away from Chen Xuan, Lu Yun is decisive and severe. He personally organized the covert investigation into the Zhang Family’s circumstances, ordered the destruction of the Zhao Family after confirming its crimes, and sought to keep the violence from disturbing Chen Xuan’s stay. 27 28

His considerate side appears in his arrangements for the elderly Zhang Yuanshan’s journey to Shrek City, which he completed safely before settling the family in Chen Xuan’s designated residence. His persuasive ability also extends beyond intimidating local officials: he later encouraged Chef Ju and his wife to accept Chen Xuan’s employment offer by emphasizing the opportunities Shrek City could provide for their daughter. 37 42 72

Lu Yun’s patrol brings him into contact with Chen Xuan during the latter’s search for Zhang Lexuan. He prevents Chen Xuan from staying at an inn, instead hosting him on the Azure Mist River and arranging a private residence for his stay. 23 24 25

After Chen Xuan expresses interest in Zhang Lexuan as a potential disciple, Lu Yun investigates the Zhang Family and discovers that the Zhao Family has been plotting to seize its ancestral property. He eliminates the Zhao Family before Chen Xuan can act, then presents the completed investigation as a fait accompli. 26 28 31

Zhang Lexuan’s Discipleship

Lu Yun accompanies Chen Xuan to the Zhang Residence and introduces him as Taotie Douluo Xuanzi of Shrek Academy’s Sea God Pavilion. He supports Chen Xuan’s plan to accept Zhang Lexuan as a disciple and pledges to protect the Zhang Family if it remains in Azure Mist City. 32 34

Following Lexuan’s acceptance, Lu Yun helps arrange the family’s relocation to Shrek City and is tasked with notifying Yan Shaozhe so that invitations can be prepared for the future discipleship ceremony. 35 37

He attends Lexuan’s birthday celebration and subsequently takes responsibility for the slower, safer journey of her elderly grandfather while Chen Xuan, Lexuan, and her parents travel ahead. Before the ceremony, he reports that Zhang Yuanshan and the other relatives have arrived safely and been settled in their designated residence. 36 37 42

Lu Yun also observes the growing diplomatic tension surrounding the ceremony. He notes the anxiety of the Three Empires’ envoys and later worries about the assembled factions’ activities, while Chen Xuan remains confident. 42 45

War Against the Evil Soul Masters

By the continental campaign against the Holy Spirit Cult, Lu Yun has reached Rank 92, become a Sea God Pavilion Outer Pavilion elder, and entered Elder Song’s direct tutelage. Chen Xuan personally includes him in the Sun Moon and Dou Ling joint force so that he can broaden his experience in the Sun Moon Empire. 65

During the border operations, Lu Yun arranges interrogations of captured Evil Soul Master remnants and receives Chen Xuan’s orders to increase aerial reconnaissance and deploy stronger search teams. After reports of victims’ remains reach command, he transmits instructions for respectful burial at the discovery sites. 74 75

At the Evil Demon Forest encirclement, Lu Yun reports that twelve captured Soul Douluos have disclosed twenty outer strongholds but cannot identify the main headquarters. He also explains that two prisoners exploded after interrogators pressed them for headquarters information, severely injuring two interrogators and nearly destroying the room. Chen Xuan forbids further questioning on that subject, orders the known strongholds recorded, and instructs Lu Yun to arrange the secret elimination of the remaining fugitives and ten captured Soul Douluos with their subordinates. 76

Recruiting Ju Zi’s Family

After the army’s five-month journey to the Ming Dou Mountains, Lu Yun accompanies Chen Xuan into a nearby frontier town to eat at Chef Ju’s restaurant. When Chen Xuan offers the cook employment as his personal chef in Shrek City, Chef Ju hesitates because his family consists of commoners without Soul Power. 72

Lu Yun explains Chen Xuan’s position as a Sea God Pavilion elder and core seat of the Firmament Tribunal, assuring Chef Ju that common birth does not disqualify his family from the opportunity. He emphasizes the prospects available to Ju Zi in Shrek City, helping persuade her parents to accompany Chen Xuan after the military expedition. 72
