Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Three-hundred-thousand-year cultivation | 56 | A retrospectively described breakthrough. Its Heavenly Tribulation damaged her origin, leaving her dependent on treasures and prolonged recovery before the next tribulation. |
| Three-hundred-and-ninety-thousand-year cultivation | 55 56 57 | Her established cultivation when Chen Ling finds her. Compressed Ten-Thousand-Year Ice Marrow forces her toward the next tribulation, but the apparent four-hundred-thousand-year breakthrough occurs inside an illusion; afterward, she remains at 390,000 years. |
| Level 97 human Soul Master | 58 | Transforms during a month of seclusion after consuming an Immortal Herb. Chen Ling supplies Chaos Power and helps her absorb Ice Marrow, converting her beast origin into human Soul Power. |
| Level 98, collectively reported | 72 | The academy’s strength overview states that every Titled Douluo other than level-94 Dugu Bo is level 98. Her individual breakthrough is not shown. |
Appearance
- Human-shaped beast form: A petite girl with long dark-green hair tied into twin ponytails, a simple long dress, and a scorpion tail. This appearance predates her actual transformation into a human Soul Master 55 58.
- True beast form: A small, jade-colored Ice Jade Scorpion 56 62.
- After transformation: Retains her green hair, twin ponytails, and small stature; she is easily overlooked among Chen Ling’s companions 61 71.
- Combat manifestation: An enormous Ice Jade Scorpion phantom appears behind her, contrasting with the small size of her original body 62.
Personality
Ice Empress is proud, impulsive, and openly pleased when opponents recognize her strength. Her eagerness for Ice Marrow leads her to swallow Chen Ling’s bait without discovering its spatial compression. In combat, she shows little restraint: her exhibition against Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo resembles a lethal attack more than a friendly spar 55 62.
Her attachment to Snow Empress initially outweighs both physical hardship and fear of Heavenly Tribulation. Chen Ling exploits this devotion through an illusion of abandonment, leaving her frightened and unable to resist him even after she suspects the experience was false 56 57.
After joining Chen Ling, she retains a coy, outwardly reluctant manner while increasingly seeking his attention and comfort. She resents his other relationships but eventually acknowledges that she loves him and chooses to remain with him despite Snow Empress’s request to return 58 61 65 68 70 71.
Abilities & Skills
Ultimate Ice
- Commands extremely low temperatures capable of turning an arena into a snow-covered battlefield 62.
- Freezes Ghost Douluo’s shadow-based ghost hands despite his resistance to ordinary physical attacks 62.
- Forms an ice-jade Soul Power vortex that shreds Chrysanthemum Douluo’s golden blades and continues toward both opponents 62.
- Her elemental advantage gives her near-four-hundred-thousand-year beast form combat strength comparable to a level-98 Super Douluo, though still below Snow Empress 58.
Ice Empress’s Pincers
- Manifests large scorpion pincers over her hands for close-range attacks 62.
- Uses them to charge directly at Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo during her public exhibition 62.
Cold Domain and Soul Power Conversion
- Expands an emerald domain from her feet without visibly activating her Soul Rings 62.
- Chen Ling’s influence adds a conversion effect to her ice attribute: maintaining the cold environment draws on her opponents’ Soul Power, rapidly exhausting them 62.
- Chaos-assisted transformation alters her elemental power and aura enough that Snow Empress initially fails to recognize her from a distance 68.
Transformation
- Can assume a human-shaped appearance while still being a Soul Beast; this is distinct from becoming a human Soul Master 55 56.
- Achieves true transformation through a special Immortal Herb and Chen Ling’s Chaos Power, despite transformation normally being unavailable to Ferocious Beasts 58.
- The process converts her beast origin directly into human Soul Power rather than requiring her to begin again at low cultivation 58.
Soul Rings
- Displays nine Soul Rings: six black and three red 62.
- Their configuration, combined with her Ice Jade Scorpion phantom and extreme cold, immediately intimidates the Spirit Hall envoys 62.
Mentorship
- Possesses exceptionally precise ice control and experience with fusion skills, making her suited to teaching Shui Bing’er and Shui Yue’er 65.
- Guides the sisters’ training with Ice Marrow and a twin ice-lantern lotus supplied by Chen Ling 65.
- Accepts Shui Bing’er as her disciple and provides Spirit Bones from her personal collection to strengthen both sisters 72.
Limitations
- Her damaged origin makes the next Heavenly Tribulation a serious threat without sufficient healing and preparation 56.
- Uncontrolled Ice Marrow absorption consumes all her concentration and temporarily prevents her from reverting to her scorpion form 56.
- Her spiritual power is far below Chen Ling’s: she cannot detect his concealed spatial interference and is vulnerable to his illusion techniques 55 56 57.
Equipment / Items
- Ice-jade bed — Located in her private underground den among glowing ice-blue plants 55.
- Storage ring — Given by Chen Ling to hold Ten-Thousand-Year Ice Marrow and the twin ice-lantern lotus for the Shui sisters’ training. She immediately places it on her ring finger 65.
- Spirit Bone collection — Accumulated from Soul Beasts that died naturally or were hunted. She retrieves part of it from the Far North for her students 72.
History
Encounter with Chen Ling
Ice Empress lives in a private den within the Far North’s Ice Jade Scorpion nest. Chen Ling infiltrates the colony without her noticing and wakes her by dropping a spatially compressed piece of Ten-Thousand-Year Ice Marrow onto her forehead. She swallows it, unaware that it is an entire piece compressed to a tiny size. Its expansion releases enough energy to push her toward the four-hundred-thousand-year tribulation before she can prepare 55 56.
While she struggles to refine the marrow, Chen Ling traps her in an Illusion Realm. She believes she has safely broken through, then discovers Snow Empress missing. After years of searching within the illusion, she finds Snow Empress living with Chen Ling and spends ten years helplessly watching their life together. On awakening, she recognizes that her cultivation has not reached four hundred thousand years, but the nightmare’s emotional effects remain 56 57.
Chen Ling threatens that Snow Empress could truly suffer the fate shown in the illusion unless Ice Empress cooperates. She agrees to accompany him rather than risk Xue’er’s safety. Initially intending to take Snow Empress’s place, she subsequently asks to transform. An Immortal Herb, Ice Marrow, and a month of Chaos-assisted cultivation allow her to emerge as a level-97 human Soul Master 57 58.
Public Debut
After returning to Heaven Dou City, Chen Ling presents Ice Empress as one of his two Titled Douluo wives, a description she inwardly objects to. He arranges an exhibition against Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo to establish her reputation and advertise his faction’s strength 59 61.
Ice Empress overwhelms their coordinated attacks with Ultimate Ice and her Soul Power-converting cold field. Chen Ling stops the confrontation before it causes serious harm, and Ya Li heals the envoys, who concede defeat. News of the battle reaches Snow Empress through a storyteller in Skywater City, prompting her to attempt a rescue 62 64.
Reunion with Snow Empress
Snow Empress mistakenly concludes that Spirit Hall has captured Ice Empress and battles Qian Daoliu near Heaven Dou City. When Chen Ling intervenes, Ice Empress calls out and rushes into Snow Empress’s arms, stopping her redirected attack. Snow Empress recognizes her familiar presence but is confused by her changed aura and human transformation 66 67 68.
During their subsequent conversation, Ice Empress calls Snow Empress her dearest sister but refuses to leave Chen Ling. Snow Empress is deeply hurt, yet ultimately chooses to watch over her from a distance and wish her happiness. Ice Empress remains upset by their separation and turns to Chen Ling for comfort 69 70 71.
Training the Shui Sisters
Chen Ling assigns Shui Bing’er and Shui Yue’er to Ice Empress’s care as part of his tournament preparation. She later takes them to the Far North, formally accepts Bing’er as her disciple, and retrieves Spirit Bones to support their development. By this point, Shui Bing’er’s Martial Soul has become a true Ice Phoenix with an Ultimate Attribute 65 72.
Relationships
- Chen Ling — Initially her manipulator and captor, later her lover and cultivation benefactor. His illusion and threats secure her cooperation; his Chaos Power enables her transformation. She eventually chooses to stay with him 55 56 57 58 70.
- Snow Empress / Xue’er — Her longstanding closest companion and original romantic attachment. Ice Empress first follows Chen Ling to protect her, but later describes her as her dearest sister rather than choosing to resume their former life 55 57 68 70.
- Shui Bing’er — Her formal disciple, whom she trains in the Far North and supports with Spirit Bones 65 72.
- Shui Yue’er — Her student alongside Bing’er; receives elemental guidance and resources for their Martial Soul Fusion Skill 65 72.
- Xiao Wu — Fellow member of Chen Ling’s circle. Initially frightened after learning Ice Empress’s beast cultivation, she later teaches her to ride a bicycle 61 64.
- Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo — Opponents in her public debut. Their combined attacks fail against her Ultimate Ice, and both concede defeat 62.
