Ling Luochen uses its authority to oppose Zhou Yi, but later renounces it when leaving the academy. 27 57 Mu En subsequently orders replacement members to be selected according to strength for the upcoming tournament. 73 |
| Library Pavilion / Sutra Repository | A closely guarded archive that houses the Body Sect’s orthodox bloodline-cultivation inheritance in the future era until changes to history cause it to disappear. 79 80 81 84 |
Internal Factions
Ling Luochen reports that most academy teachers support Yan Shaozhe, while teachers unwilling to cooperate with his faction are marginalized. Zhou Yi’s continued employment is attributed in part to the influence of her husband, a Soul Douluo and Level-Eight Soul Engineer, despite her poor reputation and excessive expulsions. 27
The future academy initially divides over Lin Fan’s legacy. Long Yeyue’s faction seeks evidence with which to condemn him as a traitor, while another faction hopes to recover cultivation insights or treasures left behind by such an unusually talented Soul Master. Both initially assume that he is dead because he is absent from the academy’s historical records. 3 6
Bei Shou’en repeatedly restrains Long Yeyue’s more aggressive proposals. He rejects forcibly recruiting Time- and Spatial-type Soul Masters, pressuring the Leng Family over events in the past, and attacking the Body Sect to avenge her personal humiliation. These disputes expose a continuing division between her reliance on Shrek’s prestige and his concern for institutional responsibility and political consequences. 49 71 92
History
Leng Yaozhu and Leng Yulai originally arrive at Shrek Academy to participate in an exchange program. When Leng Yaozhu is transported ten thousand years into the past, she discovers that the academy of that era has no such program; Lin Fan subsequently arranges a legitimate identity and enrollment for her. 1 4
The academy’s early conflicts with Lin Fan begin after Ma Xiaotao loses control of her Evil Fire and nearly harms Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong. Du Weilun attempts to silence the incident with Soul Ascension Pills and threats of expulsion, prioritizing the academy’s reputation over the students’ safety. 1 2 Lin Fan openly condemns the cover-up, defeats Du Weilun, and explains that he remains at Shrek only to repay a favor rather than out of institutional loyalty. 2 3
Further failures intensify the dispute. Ling Luochen’s mission against Evil Soul Masters is based on intelligence that drastically understates the threat, nearly leaving her to face a Soul King and multiple Soul Ancestors alone. 10 Lin Fan later confronts Xuan Zi over both the faulty intelligence and the manipulated Freshman Grand Competition, in which Huo Yuhao’s team is initially denied victory despite displaying the stronger Martial Soul Fusion Skill. 53 55
Mu En eventually recognizes Huo Yuhao’s team as the rightful winners, but retains Xuan Zi, Yan Shaozhe, and their faction within the academy. Lin Fan therefore fulfills his promise to leave once Elder Zhou’s belongings are recovered, while still leaving soul-tool blueprints as a final contribution. 56 Ling Luochen resigns alongside him, and Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, and Xiao Xiao also withdraw after Xuan Zi dismisses them as replaceable. 57
Aftermath of the Departures
Xuan Zi attacks Lin Fan as the departing group prepares to enter a Space Gate. Lin Fan counters without turning around, severs Xuan Zi’s arm, and spares him only out of respect for Mu En. The injury substantially weakens one of Shrek’s principal combat forces. 59 60
Mu En refuses to support retaliation, rebukes Xuan Zi for provoking the confrontation, and warns Qian Duoduo that further hostility could result in his death. He also reprimands Du Weilun for interfering with the Freshman Grand Competition’s rewards and threatens to remove him from office if he repeats the misconduct. 60
Xuan Zi later renews his demand that Lin Fan be eliminated before becoming a greater threat. Mu En again refuses and acknowledges that his failure to discipline the academy’s senior figures helped drive away a powerful potential ally. Despite these concerns, he appoints Xuan Zi to lead Shrek’s tournament team, hoping that a championship will restore his reputation. 73
Tournament Preparation and the Death Messenger Disaster
Shrek prepares for the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament by selecting replacement Seven Monsters according to strength. Mu En insists on winning the championship, while expressing concern that Xuan Zi might repeat the earlier disaster in which eight Inner Court disciples died. Yan Shaozhe nevertheless assures him that Xuan Zi has learned from his mistakes. 57 73
The main team departs with promising Outer Court reserves under Xuan Zi’s leadership. Its members are at least Soul Kings, with Ma Xiaotao and Dai Yueheng both at Soul Emperor level. During the journey, Xuan Zi assigns the students an exercise against an Evil Soul Master group led by the Death Messenger, reportedly a Soul King. He promises to protect them but rejects a reserve student’s suggestion that they prepare high-grade defensive Soul Tools. 100
Ma Xiaotao leads the assault on the group’s cave after the students discover mutilated civilian bodies nearby. Shrek’s main team initially overwhelms the guards through coordinated attacks and support abilities. The Death Messenger then detonates the corpses, releasing poison and destructive shock waves. All main-team members except Ma Xiaotao and Dai Yueheng are killed; those two are critically injured, and Dai Huabin loses both legs. The other reserves survive with injuries. 101
Xuan Zi, who had been eating rather than actively guarding the students, intervenes only after the explosion. The Death Messenger abducts Ma Xiaotao and Dai Yueheng, detonates the cave to cover his escape, and evades Xuan Zi. Rather than immediately pursuing the captor, Xuan Zi berates supervising teacher Wang Yan for failing to protect the team. Wang Yan apologizes, explaining that Ma Xiaotao’s control over the group had left him unable to intervene. 101 102
First-Round Tournament Elimination
Shrek’s surviving group reaches the Star Emperor Hotel in Star Luo City under Wang Yan’s supervision. Despite its depleted roster, the academy retains the hotel’s best accommodation as the reigning tournament champion. There, Wang Yan encounters Lin Fan, Leng Yaozhu, and Ling Luochen, and learns that Lin Fan’s newly established Azure Abyss Academy has entered the competition. 112 113
Xuan Zi takes Dai Huabin back for emergency treatment and seeks additional Inner Court disciples. Wang Yan urges the remaining team to survive the first day so that reinforcements can arrive. He also fears the White Tiger Duke’s reaction to Dai Yueheng’s abduction and Dai Huabin’s crippling injuries. 113
| Competing member | Known role or condition |
|---|---|
| Unnamed Inner Court disciple | Five-Ring Soul King and the strongest member of the depleted opening lineup. 113 |
| Bei Bei | Reserve-team member forced to compete against stronger academy teams. 112 113 |
| Xu Sanshi | Reserve-team member who expresses frustration that an intended learning experience has become a dangerous competitive obligation. 113 |
| Tang Ya | Reserve-team member who doubts their ability to withstand older elite opponents. 112 113 |
| Jiang Nannan | Reserve-team member concerned about the strength gap against top academies. 112 113 |
| Xie Huanyue | Reserve-team member whose usual confidence is undermined by the crisis. 112 113 |
| Zhu Lu | Member of the surviving lineup; Dai Huabin’s injuries prevent their Hell White Tiger Martial Soul Fusion Skill from bolstering the team. 112 113 |
The opening draw places Shrek against Azure Abyss Academy. Spectators enthusiastically support Shrek and interpret its unusually young lineup as evidence that the academy is confident enough to let newcomers gain experience. The team itself is considerably less optimistic, possessing only one Soul King while its other members are Soul Ancestors or Soul Elders. 113
Ling Luochen reveals six Soul Rings and Soul Emperor cultivation, exceeding the Shrek representative’s expectation that she would remain a Soul King. Leng Yaozhu then reveals seven rings and Soul Sage cultivation. Their coordinated Ice Spear and heavenly phoenix flame assault rapidly defeats Shrek’s entire team. Azure Abyss Academy wins the match, eliminating Shrek in the first preliminary round before reinforcements can help. Wang Yan watches the injured students being carried away in shock as the crowd struggles to accept the reigning champion’s immediate defeat. 114
Reputation and Controversies
- Cover-up of student endangerment — Du Weilun offers Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong Soul Ascension Pills after Ma Xiaotao nearly harms them, while threatening expulsion if they disclose the incident. 1 2
- Teacher misconduct — Zhou Yi is known for frequent expulsions and publicly punishes her students after being humiliated by Lin Fan. Her conduct causes prospective students and families to question Shrek’s educational culture. 25 26
- Favoritism in compensation — Yan Shaozhe replaces a promised spatial-attribute soul bone with Gold Soul Coins and an unsuitable fire-attribute soul bone, apparently intending to retain the more valuable reward for himself or Ma Xiaotao. 15 17
- Faulty mission oversight — Xuan Zi’s intelligence error places Ling Luochen in a mission far beyond its stated danger level. 10 57
- Manipulated competition result — Du Weilun awards the Freshman Grand Competition to Dai Huabin’s team despite Huo Yuhao’s team demonstrating the stronger fusion skill; Xuan Zi refuses to correct the result and revokes Huo Yuhao’s core-disciple status. 52 53
- Resistance to accountability — Yan Shaozhe and Xuan Zi repeatedly appeal to Shrek’s honor and hierarchy rather than acknowledge misconduct, contributing to Lin Fan, Ling Luochen, and several students leaving the academy. 56 57
- Factional protection and unequal treatment — Teachers opposing Yan Shaozhe’s faction are marginalized, while Zhou Yi’s influential husband helps protect her employment. Ling Luochen also describes an expelled student whose family connections enabled his eventual admission to the Inner Court. 27
- Proposed coercive recruitment — Long Yeyue orders a continent-wide effort to gather Time-type Soul Masters and threatens to treat obstructing factions as enemies. Bei Shou’en rejects forced recruitment and permits only voluntary participation. 48 49
- Withholding the Body Sect’s inheritance — Future Shrek elders knowingly conceal the Body Sect’s complete secret techniques while its descendants struggle with dangerous reconstructions that cause deaths. They justify retaining the inheritance through possession and the organizations’ historical feud. 79
- Attempted recovery of vanished manuals — After altered history removes the Body Sect’s Secret Method from Shrek’s archive, Long Yeyue demands its surrender from the Body Sect, claiming that Shrek’s former possession establishes ownership. Other elders warn that her unilateral action could provoke war and damage the academy’s reputation. 81 83 84
- Repeated failure to protect elite students — The Death Messenger’s corpse-explosion trap destroys most of the main tournament team while Xuan Zi is inattentive. His inability to prevent the abduction of Ma Xiaotao and Dai Yueheng further undermines confidence in Shrek’s oversight. 100 101 102
- Scapegoating after disaster — Xuan Zi shifts responsibility onto Wang Yan, while future Long Yeyue attempts to blame Lin Fan despite other elders finding the explanation implausible. 102
- Loss of competitive prestige — Shrek’s reputation as the continent’s foremost academy cannot compensate for its depleted lineup, which Azure Abyss Academy defeats in the tournament’s first round. 113 114
Relations
- Sea God Pavilion — Shrek’s ruling body; its inability to remove Xuan Zi and Yan Shaozhe’s faction is the decisive reason Lin Fan refuses to regard the academy as his home. 32 56
- Mu En — Past-era Sea God Pavilion Master who protects Lin Fan on several occasions, enforces fairness in the Freshman Grand Competition, and later regrets the academy’s loss of talent. 55 56 57 He prohibits retaliation against Lin Fan but entrusts Xuan Zi with tournament leadership in an attempt to restore his standing. 60 73
- Xuan Zi — Senior Shrek figure whose intelligence failures, treatment of Huo Yuhao, and attack on Lin Fan deepen the academy’s crisis. Lin Fan severs one of his arms after Xuan Zi launches a sneak attack. 53 57 59 His subsequent tournament escort mission ends in mass casualties and two abductions; he returns to seek replacements after the disaster. 100 101 102 113
- Yan Shaozhe — Martial Soul Department dean and a leading opponent of Lin Fan; he repeatedly protects Ma Xiaotao and attempts to pressure Ling Luochen into remaining at Shrek. 9 15 56
- Du Weilun — Department head who participates in the initial cover-up and manipulates the Freshman Grand Competition; Mu En later warns that further interference will cost him his position. 1 52 60
- Spirit Pagoda — A hostile rival in the future era. Qian Gu Dieting exploits Shrek’s exposed misconduct, while the Pagoda mocks the academy’s failure to recognize Huo Yuhao’s importance. 2 53 58 Its members also ridicule Xuan Zi’s failure during the Death Messenger disaster. 102
- Leng Family — Cancels its exchange program with Shrek after the Light Screen exposes the academy’s past conduct. 2 26 Long Yeyue later proposes making the family control Leng Yaozhu or compensate Shrek for altered history, but Bei Shou’en rejects the demand as unreasonable. 71
- Tang Sect — Considered by future Shrek elders as a potential intermediary for reconciling with Huo Yuhao after his expulsion. 59
- Lin Fan — Former Inner Court teacher whose loyalty rests on his debt to Elder Zhou rather than Shrek’s leadership. After departing, he becomes the founder of Azure Abyss Academy, while Mu En continues to restrain attempts to retaliate against him. 3 56 60 73
- Azure Abyss Academy / Hidden Azure Pavilion — Rival institutions developed by Lin Fan after leaving Shrek. His academy is intended to supply future members to Hidden Azure Pavilion, and defeating Shrek is an explicit tournament objective. Azure Abyss eliminates Shrek in their opening match. 71 72 73 114
- Body Sect — A historically hostile organization whose feud includes Mu En’s responsibility for Du Busi’s elder brother’s death, although the two institutions previously cooperated against the Sun Moon Empire. The future dispute over its secret inheritance leads to Long Yeyue’s capture and costly ransom; Bei Shou’en refuses her demand for a retaliatory attack. 79 81 83 92
- Wang Yan — Scholarly Shrek teacher and tournament supervisor who accepts blame after Xuan Zi’s accusations. He attempts to sustain the depleted team until reinforcements arrive, but witnesses its first-round elimination. 39 102 113 114
- White Tiger Duke’s Mansion — The injuries to Dai Huabin and the abduction of Dai Yueheng create a potential political crisis. Wang Yan fears that the Duke and Duchess will demand an explanation from Shrek. 113
- Holy Spirit Cult — An openly hostile organization whose members mock Shrek’s claims of righteousness and exploit the Death Messenger disaster to ridicule its competence. 4 102
- Sun Moon Federation — Investigates Lin Fan’s history for information damaging to Shrek. Bei Shou’en cites its Level Twelve God-Slaying Soul Cannon as a reason the academy cannot assume unquestioned military supremacy. 6 49
Impact of the Light Screen
The Light Screen broadcasts Shrek’s past to observers ten thousand years later, exposing incidents that conflict with the academy’s heroic historical image. Its appearance coincides with Leng Yaozhu’s disappearance upon entering Shrek Academy, and even Bei Shou’en cannot investigate it through the Golden Ancient Tree. 1 29
The broadcasts cause the Leng Family and several other families to cancel exchange programs, while intended enrollment falls by thirty percent. 26 29 As Huo Yuhao’s altered departure threatens the academy’s future role, the statue of Ling Bing Douluo in Ling Bing Square becomes translucent, suggesting that changes in the past are affecting the present. 58 59
Historical Changes and Lost Inheritances
The elders fear that losing Huo Yuhao’s contributions could compromise Shrek’s Soul Tool development and its historical survival against the Sun Moon Empire. Bei Shou’en proposes reconciliation through Bei Bei and Tang Ya, but the observers cannot communicate with the past and therefore have no direct means of implementing the plan. 58 59
Snow Empress subsequently disappears from the Ling Bing Douluo statue after avoiding her original fate and returning to human form. The elders worry that Ice Empress and Huo Yuhao’s other Soul Spirits may also vanish, or that Ling Bing Douluo himself may cease to exist in the academy’s future legacy. Lin Fan’s independent development of Soul Spirit Technology increases their concern that Shrek’s influence or continued existence could be threatened. 71
The Body Sect’s Secret Method for cultivating Bloodline Power provides a second concrete sign of historical alteration. Although Shrek’s elders had kept the inheritance hidden for generations, it disappears from the Library Pavilion as Lin Fan’s cooperation with Du Busi changes the Body Sect’s prospects. The loss alarms elders whose students are already using the method in seclusion. Complete copies subsequently appear at the Body Sect and the Leng Family residence. 79 80 81
Long Yeyue attempts to reclaim the inheritance personally despite warnings about political consequences. Her confrontation with the Body Sect results in her capture and a costly ransom. On returning, she demands an attack, but Bei Shou’en refuses to let personal anger dictate the academy’s actions. 81 83 84 92
Research Responses and Growing Anxiety
Shrek’s investigation of historical Time-type Martial Souls finds no precedent for Lin Fan’s ability to increase the age of plants or Soul Bones. Long Yeyue seeks to reproduce the capability by gathering Time-type Soul Masters for unified training. Bei Shou’en rejects coercion, allowing research only with individuals who voluntarily join the academy. 48 49
The future academy has also spent years unsuccessfully attempting to obtain the Spirit Pagoda’s Artificial Soul Spirit Technology. Long Yeyue initially dismisses Lin Fan’s chances of developing it and criticizes Huo Yuhao for not keeping the technology under Shrek’s control. His later success challenges that assumption and intensifies fears about the consequences of his estrangement. 35 63 71
Lin Fan’s breakthrough to Level 95 further unsettles the elders, disproving earlier claims that he could never advance beyond Level 94. They speculate that the Time Martial Soul awakened through Leng Yaozhu’s intervention removed his limitation. Some fear that he could eventually become a god and retaliate against Shrek, or that the Light Screen itself might be his creation from the Divine Realm; these remain conjectures. 75
The broadcast of the Death Messenger disaster causes another major reputational collapse. The Spirit Pagoda and Holy Spirit Cult openly mock the academy, while Shrek’s elders confront the contrast between Xuan Zi’s celebrated historical image and his failure to safeguard students. 101 102 103
Resources and Technology
Soul Tool Research
Lin Fan leaves Shrek several valuable Soul Tool blueprints when resigning. Mu En transfers them to Qian Duoduo and orders the Soul Tool Department to investigate their potential to strengthen the academy. Although Qian Duoduo initially suspects that the designs might be useless or deliberately harmful, Fan Yu later identifies them as predominantly Grade Eight designs with at least one Grade Nine blueprint. 56 60 73
The designs exceed Fan Yu’s manufacturing ability and require exceptionally rare materials that Shrek does not possess. Mu En nevertheless directs continued study, hoping that eventual production will improve the academy’s deterrence. By the tournament journey, progress remains limited, contributing to Xuan Zi’s frustration with the department. 73 100
Teaching and Cultivation Resources
Shrek’s Outer Court provides foundational instruction on topics such as Soul Beast ages and Martial Soul characteristics, but Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong recognize that much of this material is also taught at other advanced academies. Sky Dream Ice Silkworm identifies access to rare resources, rather than exclusive basic knowledge, as the major reason to attend Shrek, while noting that such resources require passing harsh assessments and selections. 76
Xiao Xiao contrasts her fear of punishment or expulsion under Zhou Yi with the support and resources she later receives at Hidden Azure Pavilion. This comparison reinforces the distinction between Shrek’s prestigious institutional connections and Lin Fan’s more personally supportive educational environment. 69 83
Bloodline-Cultivation Inheritance
Before the timeline changes, the future academy possesses the Body Sect’s complete orthodox secret techniques and uses bloodline-cultivation methods to produce powerful Soul Masters. Its archive is inaccessible to outsiders, enabling the origin of those techniques to remain concealed. After the manuals vanish, the elders fear disruption to ongoing cultivation and to Shrek’s ability to train future powerhouses. 79 80 81 84
