The Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's residence stood upon a vast, desolate expanse, its magnificent complex of buildings imposing and grand. At its center, a towering blue hall stood proudly, radiating an ancient and majestic aura.
Yu Luomian sat quietly in the enormous chair, his expression grave and his eyes filled with complicated emotions. Though he still wore splendid robes, they could not conceal the marks left by time.
As he was not a Titled Douluo, his temples had already gained streaks of gray. Those strands of white hair seemed to speak of the resentment and helplessness in his heart. He looked down at Yu Xiaogang, his thoughts churning.
"Second Uncle, I have now broken through to Level 20. I wish to go out and obtain my second soul ring. I hope Second Uncle can help make the arrangements."
Yu Xiaogang's voice was dejected yet respectful, with a faint trace of excitement in his tone.
Today was the joyous day Yu Xiaogang had broken through to Level 20. In merely a few years, he had cultivated from a good-for-nothing with only a few levels of Soul Power to Level 20.
For a possessor of a useless Martial Soul whose Innate Soul Power had been only half a level, this was undoubtedly an unprecedented miracle.
At least, in Yu Xiaogang's understanding, this was the result of his unrelenting efforts, his struggle against fate.
At that moment, a trace of impatience flashed through Yu Luomian's eyes. The fleeting emotion was like a weak bolt of lightning, gone in an instant, yet it truly reflected the annoyance he felt toward Yu Xiaogang deep within his heart.
He looked at Yu Xiaogang below him and grew increasingly dissatisfied with this nephew. In his eyes, Yu Xiaogang was a pitiful wretch who had relied on the clan's resources to forcibly raise his strength, yet remained utterly mediocre.
His gaze lingered on Yu Xiaogang for a moment before swiftly shifting away, as though looking at him any longer would only irritate him.
Yu Luomian pursed his lips tightly, doing his best to restrain his emotions and keep his annoyance and contempt from spilling out.
He knew that, as an elder, he could not openly show his dislike for Yu Xiaogang before everyone, especially at such a special time.
Yu Luomian cleared his throat and forced a slight smile onto his face. "Xiaogang, not bad, not bad. Reaching Level 20 in such a short time was no easy feat. This is indeed something worth celebrating. The clan is proud of you."
Yet inwardly, he continued to complain, unable to understand why Heaven had allowed trash like Yu Xiaogang to appear in the clan and waste so much of its accumulated resources.
Whenever he recalled how his elder brother, Yu Yuanzhen, had disregarded the opinions of everyone in the clan and resolutely used a vast amount of the clan's accumulated resources to raise Yu Xiaogang's cultivation to Level 20—
In Yu Luomian's eyes, that decision was simply absurd beyond belief. That resolute attitude seemed like an open challenge to the clan's traditions and everyone's opinions, making his dissatisfaction grow even stronger.
Those precious resources could originally have been used to nurture clan members with true talent and potential, laying a firmer foundation for the clan's prosperity.
Or that enormous reserve of resources could have been given to him. With the talent he had accumulated over many years and his tireless efforts, he could have continued raising his Soul Power Level. He might even have been able to make a bid for the supreme realm of a Titled Douluo.
But now, so many resources had been wasted for nothing on trash like Yu Xiaogang, who was good for absolutely nothing.
Becoming a Titled Douluo had always been the height Yu Luomian most wanted to reach, the goal he had worked toward all his life. Whenever he thought of it, his heart filled with regret and unwillingness.
Yet because of his elder brother's favoritism, all of that had become unreachable. As time slowly passed, he had also discovered that his potential seemed to have been exhausted. He likely would never be able to break through to become a Titled Douluo in this lifetime.
In the past, he had been full of heroic spirit, dazzling like a brilliant star, the focus of the entire clan wherever he went.
But now, that vigor had long since vanished, replaced by a more solemn bearing. His aura was restrained, like a silent mountain. The constant smile on his face had also become indifference, a helplessness toward fate and disappointment in reality.
Yu Xiaogang was slightly stunned by Yu Luomian's praise. He had not expected his second uncle to praise him so highly, but he still respectfully replied, "Thank you for your praise, Second Uncle. Xiaogang knows he still has many shortcomings. I will certainly cultivate even harder in the future and bring honor to the clan."
At the same time, he thought to himself, As expected, in the entire Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, aside from Father, only Second Uncle treats me the best.
The other clan members only mock and ridicule me because my Martial Soul mutated. They even resent me for occupying so many of the clan's cultivation resources. Little do they know that, as the clan leader's son, all of this was mine by right.
At that moment, Yu Luomian rose to his feet, walked over to Yu Xiaogang, and lightly patted him on the shoulder. "Good. If you need anything in the future, come to Second Uncle. The clan will fully support your cultivation."
However, Yu Luomian's thoughts drifted back to several years ago. Back then, in order to stop the other clan members from mocking Yu Xiaogang as trash, his elder brother Yu Yuanzhen had actually found some excuse and made an outsider servant a scapegoat, staging an example to intimidate the rest.
Although that successfully made the other clan members afraid to mock Yu Xiaogang to his face again, Yu Luomian was extremely dissatisfied with it. He felt that his elder brother was protecting Yu Xiaogang far too much, even going so far as to warn the entire clan for the sake of a piece of trash.
The more Yu Luomian thought about it, the angrier he became. He felt his elder brother's actions were utterly incomprehensible. In his view, Yu Xiaogang should have earned respect through his own abilities rather than relying on his elder brother's protection. If this continued, Yu Xiaogang would only become a burden to the clan. Not only the other clan members, but even Yu Luomian himself now felt intense dissatisfaction toward Yu Xiaogang.
He could not understand why his elder brother was so determined to devote himself to that piece of trash while neglecting other, more valuable clan members. Such unfair treatment made Yu Luomian begin to doubt his elder brother's leadership ability.
He took a deep breath and tried to calm his emotions. Though his heart was full of disgust and contempt for Yu Xiaogang, he had to maintain outward calm. He could not let anyone see his true thoughts, nor could he allow conflicts and disputes to arise within the clan.
After all, what the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan needed was unity and stability, not internal strife and division. Yu Luomian looked at Yu Xiaogang again. His gaze had returned to calmness, but beneath that calm lay deep disgust and helplessness.
Yet when his eyes fell on Yu Xiaogang, another thought arose in his heart. In his view, Yu Xiaogang was trash anyway. With a Martial Soul mutated into such a wretched state, how much promise could he possibly have even after reaching Level 20?
