Background and History

Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan

Yu Xiaogang is the son of Yu Yuanzhen, the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s leader and only Titled Douluo. His brother awakened the clan’s inherited Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Martial Soul with level-eight Innate Soul Power, making Xiaogang’s own mutation especially humiliating by comparison. 15

At age six, Xiaogang awakened a Swine Martial Soul and only level 0.5 Innate Soul Power. His poor aptitude and mutant Martial Soul caused clan members, servants, and commoner disciples to treat him with contempt; several had previously been targets of Xiaogang’s own arrogance. 15

Public Humiliation

At the annual test, Xiaogang is measured at only level three Soul Power. Mocked as useless and protected only by his father’s status, he flees the testing hall rather than confronting his abusers. 15

He then isolates himself for three days without eating, drinking, sleeping, or cultivating. Yu Yuanzhen eventually returns from seclusion, restores some of his clarity with Soul Power, and promises to seek a solution for Xiaogang’s Martial Soul mutation. 16

Xiaogang asks his father to punish the clan disciples who mocked him. Yu Yuanzhen refuses to harm clan unity, but agrees to have a gatekeeper surnamed Li killed after Xiaogang singles the servant out for revenge. 16

Second Soul Ring

After reaching level 20, Xiaogang asks his second uncle, Yu Luomian, to arrange his second Soul Ring hunt. Yu Luomian publicly praises him, though he privately considers Xiaogang an undeserving drain on clan resources. 35

Xiaogang rejects the clan’s designated Spirit Beast and insists on pursuing a target he claims to have researched thoroughly. Yu Luomian permits the decision and assigns Uncle Fu to escort him to Sunset Forest. 36

The resulting second Soul Skill causes farting, leaving Xiaogang deeply ashamed and further isolated from the clan’s excitement over the Heaven Dou auction. 65

Bibi Dong’s Manipulation

Bibi Dong arranges for hired Soul Masters to ambush Xiaogang in Heaven Dou City, then appears as his apparent rescuer. Her intention is to give him hope, encourage his pursuit of Martial Soul theory, and later destroy that hope as revenge. 66

By the time of the auction, Xiaogang is level 21 and accompanies Bibi Dong while visibly bruised and limping. His system profile identifies his ambition to gain fame through Martial Soul theory, following Bibi Dong’s deliberate guidance. 69

Xiaogang later leaves a letter for Yu Luomian and travels with Bibi Dong to Spirit City. There, Bibi Dong proposes using his need for recognition and access to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan to obtain its medicinal-bath formulas and cultivation manuals for Spirit Hall. 75

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is deeply prideful about his birth as the clan leader’s son and believes clan resources and respect are his entitlement. His humiliation is sharpened by the fact that servants and disciples he once looked down upon now openly disdain him. 15 35

He is resentful and vindictive when dealing with those beneath him, demanding a servant’s death after being mocked. Yet he retreats when confronted by stronger opposition, fleeing the testing hall and becoming frightened when the hired robbers reveal their superior cultivation. 15 16 66

Despite his insecurity, Xiaogang is stubbornly confident in his own judgment. He rejects his clan’s established Soul Ring arrangements, trusting his personal research to give him a better path forward. 36
