Background / History
Ye Heng is the legitimate son of the powerful Ye Family of Cloud Capital. After losing a struggle for power against his mother, Chi Yun, he is exiled to Ningcheng with his severely ill younger sister, Ye Yue. Old Master Tang saves his life, and Ye Heng conceals his identity to become Tang Mingxi’s live-in son-in-law in exchange for support for Ye Yue’s treatment. 1
After Old Master Tang’s death, Ye Heng endures sustained abuse within the Tang household. Tang Mingxi uses Ye Yue’s illness to control him; servants and relatives treat him as disposable, while Ye Heng survives largely because he needs the Tang family’s financial assistance for his sister. 1 2 3
His decision to enter the Tang family also has a deeper motive: Tang Mingxi’s blood and bone marrow have an eight-point compatibility match with Ye Yue’s. Ye Heng originally chose Ningcheng in part because Tang Mingxi might be able to save his sister, though the arrangement later becomes a source of guilt and conflict between them. 59 72
Ye Heng’s childhood was shaped by isolation and family trauma. His parents’ unhappy marriage, his father’s affair, a kidnapping involving his mother and his father’s lover, and the aftermath of those events left him estranged from Chi Yun. He considers himself the only person who truly wanted Ye Yue to be born. 70
Appearance
Ye Heng is tall, lean, and straight-backed, with a physique that appears slender in clothing but is notably strong. Even as a teenager, he carries the composure and bearing of a future leader. 3 14
- Pale complexion and cold, severe features. 14 87
- Long, thick eyelashes; a high nose bridge; and distinctively knuckled hands. 22
- A restrained, icy presence that makes him difficult to approach. 30 131
- His maternal half-British heritage is faintly visible in his features. 156
- As he matures and becomes Jingyu’s chairman, he loses much of his earlier youthful awkwardness and develops a more formidable public image. 87 88
Personality
Ye Heng is guarded, patient, and intensely self-controlled. During his time in the Tang household, he endures humiliation without openly pleading for sympathy, but his tolerance has limits; his first act of resistance against Tang Mingxi is pushing him down the stairs after being attacked. 1 2
He is highly observant and emotionally reserved. His care is usually expressed through practical acts rather than direct reassurance: cooking, preparing food, arranging transportation, tending to Tang Mingxi’s needs, and quietly solving problems around him. 19 40 69 123
Beneath his composure, Ye Heng is deeply affected by abandonment. Ye Yue’s illness, Tang Mingxi’s repeated attempts to leave him, and memories of his childhood all expose a possessive and fearful side. At his worst, his desire to protect Tang Mingxi crosses into controlling behavior, including restricting Tang Mingxi’s contact with others and preventing him from running away. 76 98 109
His feelings for Tang Mingxi gradually soften his earlier hostility. He becomes jealous, awkwardly romantic, and willing to embarrass himself in unfamiliar ways—such as buying an expensive gaming account simply to play with Tang Mingxi. 43 48 113

Story Role / Major Arcs
Exile in the Tang Family
Ye Heng begins as a hidden Ye Family heir reduced to a live-in son-in-law. He is forced to endure Tang Mingxi’s prior abuse, freezing punishment, hunger, beatings, and social humiliation while protecting Ye Yue’s access to medical care. 1 3 5 8
Tang Mingxi’s sudden change in behavior confuses him. Ye Heng remains suspicious even as Tang Mingxi provides medicine, warm clothing, food, and public protection. 3 5 6 14
Rise Through Mingheng
Ye Heng builds authority through the Tang Family’s business affairs. He obtains Azure Luo Bay, takes control of key Mingheng operations, and proves himself capable despite being dismissed as an outsider and live-in son-in-law. 15 19 24 25
During this period, his hostility toward Tang Mingxi begins to weaken. He cooks for him, accommodates his unreasonable demands, and becomes increasingly preoccupied with his habits, appearance, and reactions. 19 29 31 40
Developing Feelings
Ye Heng’s attachment becomes increasingly visible through jealousy toward He Lingzhi and other perceived rivals. He begins initiating dinners, teasing Tang Mingxi publicly as his wife, and showing more direct possessiveness. 43 48 61
He also opens up about his family history after Ye Yue’s medical crisis. Tang Mingxi’s promise that Ye Heng will not be alone becomes a major emotional turning point for him. 69 70
Separation and Return to Cloud Capital
After being falsely implicated in Mingheng’s financial scandal, Ye Heng is arrested and later cleared. Tang Mingxi deliberately rejects him, believing that Ye Heng must return to Cloud Capital and reclaim his inheritance. 85
Ye Heng subsequently returns as the powerful chairman of Jingyu. His first reappearance in Ningcheng frightens Tang Mingxi, who interprets his coldness as revenge. 87 88
Azure Luo Bay and Tang Mingxi’s Disappearance
When Tang Mingxi disappears during Li Yuan’s hostage plot, Ye Heng believes Tang Mingxi has chosen to escape him. He brings the ransom personally, only for Tang Mingxi to vanish after jumping from the Azure Luo Bay cliffs. 98 99 100
For three years, Ye Heng refuses to accept Tang Mingxi’s death. He continues cooking meals for him, waits for him at home, and remains unable to move on even after Ye Yue’s transplant succeeds. 102 103
Reunion and Courtship
Evidence from Tang Mingxi’s swimming records, game account, and social-media history convinces Ye Heng that Tang Mingxi may be alive. He finds him at a concert but initially restrains himself, fearing that confrontation would drive Tang Mingxi away again. 106 108 109
Ye Heng then attempts to rebuild contact through online gaming, gifts, food, workplace intervention, and direct pursuit. His methods are often clumsy or overly material, but he gradually learns that Tang Mingxi needs sincerity rather than simply luxury. 113 125 126 132
Official Relationship
Ye Heng and Tang Mingxi eventually move beyond their nominal marriage and acknowledge their relationship as genuine love. Ye Heng seeks an official status beside Tang Mingxi, while Tang Mingxi publicly calls him “my husband.” 150 158 159
Other Versions
Original Ye Heng
An alternate-world counterpart of Ye Heng appears later in the story. Unlike the main Ye Heng, this version followed the original novel’s path: he imprisoned Tang Mingxi, exploited his bone-marrow compatibility with Ye Yue, and ultimately had him thrown into the sea. 200 202 231
The original Ye Heng is colder, more rigid, and deeply isolated. His interactions with the main-world Tang Mingxi reveal the extent of his loneliness and highlight how differently the main Ye Heng’s relationship developed. 205 208
