Pulis operates publicly as Sage University’s biology professor while conducting unauthorized supernatural experiments in a concealed laboratory and underground facility. His research seeks a potion that would allow Vampires to overcome their vulnerability to sunlight. His trials on students are lethal: of five earlier subjects, two died and three developed severe anemia; Pulis ordered the surviving subjects dissected. 7

He gave Evan Arkham the Night Demon Potion and Blood Potion under the guise of health treatment. Evan’s unusual resistance—absorbing Sanguine traits without mutation, blood craving, sunlight fear, or serious anemia—made him Pulis’s most valuable subject. Pulis began drawing Evan’s blood for study, considered capturing him, and ultimately chose continued surveillance while investigating Evan’s connection to Arkham City and the Demon Hunters. 7 17 26

After Hill Adolf took interest in Evan, Pulis decided not to confront the Demon Hunters directly. Instead, he intended to use them as “pathfinders” to uncover the secrets of Evan’s body, ordered Eldin to contact Evan, and continued supplying Evan with dark-red potions. 26 40

Pulis later provided Evan with Diluted Transformation Potions, whose unreversed effects would erode self-awareness and increase aversion to sunlight—evidence that Pulis was attempting to turn him into a Bloodthirsty Species or blood slave. 43 44
