Background / History
Childhood and Employment
Hina was born into a wealthy West Blue family. Her mother, an outstanding retired Marine, inspired her childhood ambition to join the Marines. The Eternal Financial Group’s rise changed her parents’ plans: its generous benefits offered a safer future, and her mother opposed sending her into a dangerous profession. Hina instead became the receptionist at the group’s Lasgap branch 72 91.
Her intelligence and sharp observation during the incident involving Buckingham impersonating Stussy earned Lucas’s favor. He later cited that contribution when agreeing to help her family 92.
Her Mother’s Abduction
When Lucas ordered the Lasgap employees and their immediate families to evacuate, Hina helped her seriously ill mother toward the harbor. Her mother collapsed before reaching safety. Both parents urged Hina to escape, fearing that her beauty would attract the Celestial Dragons; she tearfully left them behind 91.
Saint Pulming subsequently found her parents at a hospital and claimed her mother as a slave. Hina’s father tried to resist but was beaten and restrained. Her mother surrendered to prevent him from being killed 91.
The Marines’ neutrality during the abduction destroyed Hina’s faith in the institution she had admired. Lucas promised to rescue her mother without payment, describing Hina as a valued employee. After her father suggested marriage, Hina offered to become Lucas’s fifth wife. Lucas postponed the matter until she reached adulthood the following year 92.
Joining the Eos Family
Hina officially entered Lucas’s household on her coming-of-age birthday, one month before the Yulo Peninsula’s relocation on April 5, 1523. She reported that the other women treated her well, although she remained reserved about affection in their presence 102.
Her imagined life of formal gowns and charity banquets differed from reality: Lucas restricted revealing clothing to the villa. She and Baccarat openly complained about those rules while shopping together 106.
After their encounter with Little Oliver, Hina worried that his family’s Whitebeard Pirates connection would endanger the household. She brought back a Whitebeard flag and sought reassurance from Lucas, who dismissed the threat 108.
Appearance
Hina is a beautiful, pink-haired woman with a tall, curvaceous figure. Her introductory appearance emphasizes her fair skin and slender legs; later descriptions note her pink bangs and refined appearance 72 108 112.
- Pink hair and bangs are her most consistently identified physical features 72 108 232.
- Public clothing is modest under Lucas’s household rules, sometimes leaving only her neck and wrists exposed 106.
- Combat transformation replaces parts or all of her body with deep-blue flames 168 171.
Personality
Hina is usually quiet, reserved, and emotionally restrained. During the evacuation, she recognizes the danger to her family and makes the painful choice to escape at her parents’ insistence. Her later marriage proposal combines gratitude with pragmatism: after losing faith in a Marine career, she sees Lucas as a secure future 91 92.
She is more outspoken in private, complaining about Lucas’s clothing restrictions and showing jealousy when Betty enters his orbit. Her characteristic statements often end with a brief assessment of her own feelings, such as “Hina is surprised” or “Hina is angry” 106 141.
Her intense desire to become stronger accelerates her development. In battle, she is normally composed, confident, and capable of dismantling an opponent’s tactics while taunting him. That discipline breaks down when she witnesses Sakazuki’s massacre of civilians: moral outrage drives her into an unusually furious confrontation 138 173 232.
Abilities & Skills
Enhanced Physique
Repeated Lineage Factor optimization gives Hina exceptional strength and resilience. Her physical power remains a major weapon even after she becomes a Logia user 138 233.
- Defeats Little Oliver with a single direct punch 106.
- Wins a head-on strength contest against Hanafza’s enormous Tyrannosaurus form 172.
- Combines bodily force with flame propulsion to break through Haki-protected attacks 233.
- Remains vulnerable to stronger opponents: the prolonged battle with Sakazuki leaves her unconscious with a hole through her chest 233.
Blue-Flame Logia
Lucas creates Hina’s enhanced fruit by transferring the Heat-Heat Fruit’s temperature-control Lineage Factor into the Flame-Flame Fruit. Its peel turns blue before she eats it 139.
- Elemental transformation: Becomes flowing flames and reforms her body. Against Hanafza’s Haki-coated scythe, she transforms in advance to avoid being physically cut apart 171.
- Propulsion: Uses jets beneath her feet, from her legs, and behind her elbows for flight, evasive movement, and accelerated strikes 168 172 233.
- Heat output: Her blue flames exceed Sakazuki’s magma in temperature and can heat metal weapons until they glow red 172 232.
- Constructs: Shapes flames into whips, threads, and a diamond-shaped shield reinforced with Armament Haki 172 173.
- Limits: Superior Haki can resist or disperse her flame techniques. Hanafza breaks her fire whip with flowing Armament Haki, while Sakazuki’s Haki-enhanced magma overpowers her opening Fire Fist 172 232.
Armament Haki
Hina uses flowing Busoshoku Haki on her limbs and incorporates it into elemental attacks and defenses 168 172 173.
- Reinforces punches, flame pillars, and shields 168 172 173.
- Wears down Haki protection through sustained flame attacks 173 232.
- Possesses large reserves from repeated Lineage Factor enhancement, allowing sustained resistance despite Sakazuki’s superior Haki quality 232.
- Acknowledges that Robin’s much greater reserves make her a difficult opponent to defeat 187.
Rokushiki and Close-Quarters Combat
Before acquiring her fruit, Hina fights through bodily hardening, rapid kicks, and precise projectile interception 110 112.
- Flying Shigan: Fires air-force projectiles from her fingertips to intercept incoming bullets 110.
- Tekkai Kenpo: Meets a cannonball with a hardened fist, although the explosion knocks her back 110.
- Airborne footwork: Changes direction by stamping the air, evading Rafe’s Cannon Fist and repositioning for a hardened kick 112.
Named Flame Techniques
| Technique | Application |
|---|---|
| Fire Fist | Launches a concentrated torrent of blue flames, reinforced with Armament Haki 171 232. |
| Blazing Hell | Reignites and gathers flames scattered across the battlefield into an engulfing inferno. Defeats Hanafza by exhausting his Haki and damaging his body and mechanical arm 173. |
| Fire Phoenix Iron Fist | Combines a Haki-coated punch, enhanced muscular force, and elbow-mounted flame jets to smash Sakazuki’s volcanic shells 233. |
| Explosive flame decoy | A false Hina detonates when pierced, destroying several magma clones while the real Hina escapes 233. |
Blazing Hell is not a confirmed awakening. Hina achieves its environmental effect by distributing her own flames beforehand and then controlling those existing flames 173.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Black combat suit with a cat-eared helmet — Conceals her identity during attacks on slave-catching crews. Lucas provides the specialized suit and intervenes when she faces concentrated cannon fire 110 111.
- Sumo Panda clothing — Wears and shops for the brand’s fashions with other household members; more revealing outfits are restricted to the villa 102 106.
Relationships
- Eos Lucas — Husband, trainer, and source of her Lineage Factor enhancements and modified Devil Fruit. He promises to rescue her mother and reassures her during her adjustment to his household 92 102 139.
- Mother — A retired Marine who inspires Hina’s childhood ambition, later favors safer employment, and urges her to escape before being enslaved by Pulming 72 91.
- Father — Supports her escape, begs Lucas to recover his wife, and encourages Hina to consider marrying him 91 92.
- Baccarat — Fellow wife and shopping companion. They complain together about Lucas’s rules and face Little Oliver’s attempted kidnapping 106.
- Scarlet — Fellow household fighter and battlefield partner. Their early physical development is comparable; Scarlet later protects and supports Hina against Sakazuki 138 232.
- Robin — Fellow wife whose exceptional Haki reserves Hina recognizes with frustration and respect 187.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Defending Dressrosa
Hina confronts Hanafza when the Beasts Pirates attempt to seize two Devil Fruits from Lucas’s faction. She challenges him from the air, framing the conflict as a strength contest between allies 168.
In the Flower Field, she counters his Ancient Zoan strength, mechanical arm, chained scythe, and spiked ball through elemental transformation and flame-propelled close combat. She finishes him with Blazing Hell, then repeats his earlier warning about expensive modification surgery as a final taunt 171 172 173.
War Against the World Government
Hina confronts Sakazuki in the devastated Prodence District, rejecting his claim that rebellious civilians deserve death or enslavement. Scarlet helps her resist his magma attacks, while Hina uses flame decoys and Fire Phoenix Iron Fist to counter his superior Haki 232 233.
The extended battle ends disastrously for the defenders: Hina is left unconscious or apparently dead with a chest wound, while Scarlet and Betty also suffer catastrophic injuries. Her later participation in the Golden Lion campaign confirms her survival 233 266 269.
After the Federation receives its first bounty posters, Hina is assigned 504 million Beli 240.
Golden Lion Campaign
Lucas selects Hina alongside Robin, Stussy, Scarlet, and Hiyori for the final battle against Golden Lion, specifically valuing her flames as a means of destroying terrain. On the floating archipelago, she covers an island in blue fire and directs dozens of pillars hundreds of meters tall across its surface, burning through rock and soil 266 269.
Notable Quotes
“Mr. Eos, I am willing to become your fifth wife. Hina is honored.” 92
“Give up. You’re no match for me.” 173
“What did these civilians do wrong? Did they deserve to die? You call this justice? It makes Hina sick. Hina despises you!” 232
Trivia
- The author clarifies that Hina’s speech habit is not simply replacing first-person pronouns with her name: she refers to herself at the end of a statement as a concluding assessment 72.
- The author describes her combat template as “Natsu plus Ryujin Jakka,” linking her flame-propelled attacks and Blazing Hell to those inspirations 173.
