No more Chitauri soldiers came through the wormhole. The Chitauri were finished.

But New York had long since been reduced to ruins. Few buildings remained intact, destroyed vehicles littered the roads, and countless civilians had been killed or injured.

"Shut that thing down already, or who knows what other trouble it'll cause!"

Thor struck the Tesseract with his hammer and found that it was still continuously transmitting energy. It could not be destroyed.

"Let me handle it!"

Yake pushed Thor aside, ignored the energy shield entirely, took out the Tesseract, and tossed it directly to Thor. He did not need it for the time being. He could just ask Thor for it after the cleanup was done.

Without the Tesseract's power, the wormhole rapidly shrank at a visible rate until it vanished without a trace. Yet the Chitauri corpses covering the ground and ruined New York all spoke of what had just happened.

"You don't want it?"

"Now isn't the time. We'll talk about it later. Don't you still need it to return to Asgard?"

Yake patted Thor on the shoulder, walked to the edge of the building, and looked at smoke-shrouded New York with a helpless shake of his head. Then he vanished and returned home.

"He just left like that?"
