Background / History

Yake was originally an office worker from Blue Star who was electrocuted while watching One Piece and reincarnated as an orphan in Birka. Because he was a wingless human among Skypieans, local children excluded him. He survived alone for over six months in Birka’s dangerous forest, where giant beasts and carnivorous plants nearly killed him several times. 1

At eight years old, he found and ate the Rumble-Rumble Fruit before Enel could obtain it. He left Skypiea by leaping from Cloud End, but exhausted himself flying over the sea and collapsed near Amazon Lily. Silvers Rayleigh rescued him, while Shakky took him in and later adopted him. 1 2

Rayleigh trained Yake for ten years, teaching him Haki, swordsmanship, and combat fundamentals. At eighteen, Yake departed Sabaody in 1517—the same year Portgas D. Ace began his voyage—to build his own crew and pursue freedom on his own terms. 2 18

During his rise through the pirate world, Yake founded the Sky God Kingdom, became an Emperor-level force, acquired several Devil Fruit abilities through the Super Lottery System, and participated in conflicts that reshaped the world order. He also traveled to a parallel era alongside Gol D. Roger’s crew, helped identify Laugh Tale through the four Road Poneglyphs, and later used the system to return to his own era. 130 138 142

Yake is driven by freedom, personal ambition, and hatred of slavery and Celestial Dragon rule. He deliberately transformed his attack on Saint Charlos into a public spectacle, declaring that the World Government and Celestial Dragons should “feel pain.” 2 3 He does not seek the title of Pirate King; he instead wants to live according to his own desires. 18

He is theatrical, boastful, and prone to presenting himself as a god or cataclysm, particularly when overwhelming enemies or establishing authority. 3 8 38 His confidence is tempered by tactical caution: he avoided a prolonged fight with Garp, saved lottery rewards for later, and restrained his strongest attacks when challenging Whitebeard aboard the Moby Dick. 7 22

Despite his ruthlessness toward enemies, Yake protects those he accepts as companions. He freed Anna from slavery, took responsibility for Robin’s safety, offered Law a path toward revenge, and questioned whether Perona’s fear-based obedience could ever become genuine loyalty. 3 7 12 44 His leadership can nevertheless be coercive, as shown by his subjugation of Germa 66 and Judge. 14 15

Yake’s later actions reveal a harsher and more politically ruthless side. He killed Raizo, threatened the Mink rulers of Zou, forced Hiyori to accept Wano’s shogunate while retaining her heart as leverage, and stripped Wano of its Seastone resources. 196 211 In the Marvel Universe, he can be callous toward collateral damage and rejects the idea that power alone obligates him to protect humanity. 245 254

Nevertheless, Yake’s core conviction is that his strength exists to protect what he cherishes rather than merely dominate others. This belief allowed him to overcome the Power Stone’s mental trial, and he later risked apparent death to save the passengers of a bomb-rigged bus. 236 294

Yake returned to Skypiea, defeated Gan Fall’s claim to godhood, rang the Golden Bell to end the Skypiean–Shandian conflict, and established the Sky God Kingdom. After two years of development, Yake entered the New World, claimed Thunder God Island as Ark territory, and fought Shanks for seven days and six nights. The result led the Marines to regard him as a potential new Emperor and made the Sky God Kingdom a major independent power. 38 40 44 45

Emperor Wars and World Restructuring

Yake’s power expanded through the defeat of Blackbeard, recruitment of Impel Down prisoners, and wars against the old Emperor forces. He defeated Kaido and Big Mom, amassed Road Poneglyph information, and became widely recognized as the world’s strongest fighter. 92 138 170
