Lucifer pried open the eyes of the Corpse that had spoken earlier. She pressed a finger to one cloudy eyeball, and its mouth opened on its own. Its tongue stretched farther and farther out, the underside covered in dense lines of cipher text.
"Come on. We're going to the Lord of the Forest's altar," Lucifer said, rising.
Nameless glanced at the Corpse and immediately got up to follow. They returned to the main hall together. Gao Shanggong was still taking a beating. When he saw them emerge, he gritted his teeth and held on, slowly shifting the fight away so he would not interfere with their work.
Though they had no time to talk, Gao Shanggong chose to trust them.
The Lord of the Forest's altar stood right in the center of the hall. It was hard to miss. In the past, the Baisen Cult had worshipped the Lord of the Forest there.
Lucifer walked behind the altar. The Baisen Cult had never known what the Lord of the Forest actually looked like, so its members had simply let their imaginations run wild.
Since the Lord of the Forest had "forest" in his name, perhaps he looked like a forest?
And so the altar depicted a young man with a lush green forest atop his head.
The trees' roots hung down his back to the ground, looking like long hair.
Lucifer grasped one of the roots and twisted it. A large opening appeared in the back of the altar, with a thick tome inside.
She took out the tome and said, "This is the Baisen Cult's greatest treasure, the Myriad Forest Codex. It records the powers of every treasure belonging to the Lord of the Forest."
