"Huh? He could escape through blood mist?" Bai Ye looked puzzled.
Yue Guan and the others broke into a sweat.
That was no escape technique. Bai Ye had smashed Tang Xiao into a bloody mist that dispersed into the air.
Sword Douluo and the other survivors felt a chill run through them.
Could a twelve-year-old really hit that hard?
Tang Xiao might have been unable to resist, with only a ruined body left, but he was still a Titled Douluo. With the Clear Sky Hammer as his Martial Soul, his body had been exceptionally tough.
They had imagined Bai Ye torturing Tang Xiao to death, hammer blow by hammer blow. They had even imagined him crushing Tang Xiao's head with one strike. But turning him into a bloody mist? Not in their wildest dreams.
And unless they were mistaken, this was Bai Ye's first time killing anyone. Yet he showed no discomfort at all. They still remembered how awful they had felt after their first kills.
"Who's next?" Bai Ye looked over the three Titled Douluo, pointing the Apocalypse Hammer from one to another.
At last, his hammer stopped in Sword Douluo Chen Xin's direction.
"You'll do."
Bai Ye carried the Apocalypse Hammer toward him at an unhurried pace.
Yue Guan and Gui Mei watched from the side, keeping their spiritual senses locked on the opponents who could no longer resist.
They had no way of knowing whether any of them had a final trump card to take Bai Ye down with them.
Anyone who had become a Titled Douluo and reached level ninety-five was not to be underestimated.
This time, though, Chrysanthemum-Ghost Douluo were worrying too much.
Bai Ye was angry, but he had not lost his head.
After nearly dying twice, he kept his spiritual senses fixed on the three Titled Douluo. At the slightest movement, he could Teleport away. His safety was hardly a concern.
Could they possibly move faster than a thought?
Clearly not.
Besides, even if Bai Ye's spiritual senses had been much weaker, the three were barely clinging to life after the all-out assault of three Spirit Hall Titled Douluo whose attributes had been boosted by two hundred and fifty percent. How could they still attack?
"I hate this." As Bai Ye drew near and raised the Apocalypse Hammer, Sword Douluo closed his eyes. His life began flashing before him once more.
Bai Ye did not let him finish. His fate had been sealed when he and Ning Fengzhi came to Shrek Academy.
If he chose to hunt down a genius, he had to be ready for that genius to strike back one day.
There was nothing to pity about a man like that.
He had tried to kill Bai Ye just because he could not recruit him?
What kind of reasoning was that?
Bang!
The hammer fell. Like Tang Xiao, Sword Douluo became a bloody mist and vanished into the air.
"Chen Xin!" Bone Douluo cried out in anguish, coughing up a mouthful of blood.
"Don't worry. You're next."
Bai Ye gave him the same treatment. Bang! Bang! Two blows sent Bone Douluo after him.
The Bone Dragon specialized in defense, so he lasted one blow longer.
Bai Ye stepped up to Thunder Douluo, ready to finish him off.
But Yu Yuanzhen spoke. "Could you spare Yu Xiaogang? After all—"
Bai Ye did not let him finish. One strike ended him.
"Of course not."
And with that, Yu Xiaogang had lost his father, just as Ning Rongrong had lost hers.
Spirit City, outside the Papal Hall.
Yu Xiaogang waited by the entrance for a guard to announce him. Suddenly, dread gripped him. A sharp pain struck his heart, and his face drained of color.
"Father."
Yu Xiaogang murmured the word. He could feel that something might have happened to his father during the Saint-Hunting Operation. Yu Yuanzhen might even be dead.
Why else would this feeling come over him so suddenly?
He refused to believe it. He began praying that Yu Yuanzhen would return alive so father and son could meet again.
But his prayers were doomed to go unanswered.
Soon, he was permitted to enter the Papal Hall, where he saw Bibi Dong.
"You're here." Bibi Dong's voice was gentle and soothing. Though she was past fifty, her beauty was nearly flawless, without a trace of age.
Like fine wine, she had only grown richer with time.
"Yes, I'm here." Yu Xiaogang looked at her with a pang of bitterness. He was not yet decrepit, but she was as radiant as ever.
"Have you... been well?"
"Why wouldn't I be? I rule Spirit Hall. Who in this world could make my life unpleasant?"
"Bibi Dong, I know what you've suffered."
"Bibi Dong? What a strange name to hear. I'd almost forgotten it until you brought it up. Please call me Pope, or address me as Your Holiness," Bibi Dong said evenly.
"Yes, Your Holiness." Pain flashed through Yu Xiaogang's eyes. The woman he had once loved belonged to the past, and he could not help remembering it.
Bibi Dong watched him in silence. A part of her softened, but she held firm. What had happened back then had not been her fault.
"What did you come to see me about?" she asked.
Yu Xiaogang gathered himself, returning to his usual composure.
He had not forgotten why he was here.
After Tang Hao left, Yu Xiaogang had sent Tang San to the Clear Sky Sect, then come straight to see Bibi Dong.
He knew Tang San needed time to grow, just as the Clear Sky Sect needed time to rebuild its strength.
He could not stop the Saint-Hunting Operation, and he had prepared for the worst.
Whatever its outcome, Spirit Hall would be furious. He had come to ask Bibi Dong to give them time to grow stronger.
Of course, he could not put it that way.
"Your Holiness, I hope you can spare the Clear Sky Sect. The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan are already gone. They've paid a terrible price for pursuing the Spirit Hall Holy Son. Could you spare the Clear Sky Sect for my sake?"
"That's why you came to see me?" Bibi Dong's voice turned cold. She had thought Yu Xiaogang had finally come to his senses. Instead, this was what he wanted.
"That's not all. I also want to know how you overcame the difficulties of having Twin Martial Souls," Yu Xiaogang said.
Bibi Dong's expression changed completely. Yu Xiaogang had crushed the last hope she held for him.
"Why should I tell you? And why should I do you any favors?" The way Bibi Dong looked at him changed.
Yu Xiaogang seemed not to notice. "I've taken on a disciple with Twin Martial Souls. If you tell me how, I can guarantee he'll never oppose Spirit Hall."
Even as he said it, he was silently apologizing to Bibi Dong.
He was only saying what he needed to draw the method out of her.
There was no chance that he and Tang San would refrain from opposing Spirit Hall.
Spirit Hall had killed Tang San's mother, and now his clan was gone. How could Tang San leave those wrongs unanswered?
Still, if that day came, Yu Xiaogang would never hurt Bibi Dong.
"Heh... I could tell you, but I don't want to. It's not because I'm afraid you'll raise a powerful disciple. I simply don't want to tell you. Spirit Hall has its Holy Son; no matter how strong your disciple becomes, it won't matter. Give up."
"As for sparing the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, I can agree to that. Whether the Holy Son agrees is another matter."
Bibi Dong regarded him with mockery. Once Yu Xiaogang had made his two requests, she had understood.
Now she felt only hatred for him. Whatever love she had held was gone.
Yu Xiaogang stood frozen. He had achieved neither of his goals.
"Oh, one more thing." Bibi Dong pressed on. "That woman—your dear sister Liu Erlong—is now the head of Blue Lightning Academy. And now you..."
"You!" Yu Xiaogang lunged forward and grabbed for Bibi Dong's throat.
If Bibi Dong had still loved him, she might not have dodged. But now—
Slap! Slap!
Bibi Dong knocked his hand away with one slap, then struck his face with another.
She held back. With her strength, even an ordinary slap could have been more than Yu Xiaogang could withstand.
To her surprise, the blows also brought her a certain satisfaction.
And she had her reasons for not striking Yu Xiaogang dead.
Now that matters had come this far, she intended to make him pay.
He loved Liu Erlong, didn't he?
But he could not be with her because she was his sister, could he?
Fine. I'll help you move on. I'll put your sister together with Flender and put an end to your hopes.
Given Bibi Dong's power and position, arranging that would hardly be difficult.
If need be, she could use force.
She was no delicate pope. She had strength and means to spare.
"Bibi Dong, you..." Yu Xiaogang stared at her, too stunned to care about the pain in his face.
He had never imagined she would strike him.
"Who gave you the right to call me Bibi Dong?" Slap! She struck his other cheek.
Yu Xiaogang was utterly stunned. He collapsed to the floor, the pain in his body nothing beside the pain in his heart.
Seeing his anguish, Bibi Dong felt a weight lift from her chest. Yet she had one regret.
She regretted waiting so long to slap him.
A short distance away, Yu Xiaogang emerged from his shock, his eyes blazing.
If you won't honor our past, Bibi Dong, then neither will I.
"Listen to me, Bibi Dong! If anything happens to my father or my sister, I'll destroy Spirit Hall, whatever it takes!" Yu Xiaogang roared.
Bibi Dong's expression did not change.
"Oh? Will you? Then I'll wait for that day."
Slap!
She struck Yu Xiaogang again, sending him flying out of the Papal Hall without endangering his life.
Bibi Dong had three reasons for sparing him.
First, she wanted Yu Xiaogang to watch Liu Erlong and Flender enjoy a life together, so he could feel her pain.
Second, she wanted to see how he intended to destroy Spirit Hall at any cost.
And last, there was the faintest remnant of their past. She had once loved him deeply.
Barring something extraordinary, even that tiny remnant would not vanish.
The Sunset Forest.
After dealing with Tang Xiao and the others, Bai Ye had not forgotten the task at hand.
The Titled Douluo sent by the Clear Sky Sect were not all dead yet.
He immediately used Teleportation to take Yue Guan and Gui Mei to the others' aid.
Within the Apocalypse Domain, Bai Ye could Teleport not only himself but other people as well.
"What?!"
Yue Guan and Gui Mei were stunned. Such an ability was outrageous.
Only then did they understand how much Bai Ye had gained from the Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast's sacrifice.
That ability alone made him almost impossible to defeat.
"Hm?" Dugu Bo noticed their arrival and was overjoyed. He had held his own against two opponents, but he could not finish them off. All he could do was keep them occupied until help arrived.
Now Bai Ye, Yue Guan, and Gui Mei had appeared. His relief was easy to imagine.
"Young Master Ye!" Dugu Bo shouted excitedly.
Bai Ye nodded. No instruction was needed. Chrysanthemum-Ghost Douluo joined the fight as soon as they recovered from their surprise. Despite having little Soul Power left, they killed the two Titled Douluo with ease.
There was no time for talk. Bai Ye Teleported with the three of them to help elsewhere.
Before long, everyone from the Clear Sky Sect who had taken part in the Saint-Hunting Operation was dead—except Tang Hao, who had fled the moment the operation collapsed.
For all that Tang Hao had only one arm and one leg, he was remarkably good at escaping. Three Titled Douluo under Honor Blessing had pursued him but failed to catch him.
When they returned, the three were ashamed and asked to be punished.
They were Titled Douluo, after all. Anyone who reached that rank had pride.
Yet all three lowered their heads willingly.
Bai Ye's support abilities had earned that respect, especially from the Titled Douluo who had been on the brink of death.
Without Bai Ye's intervention, he truly would have died.
"It's all right," Bai Ye said. Tang Hao had escaped for now, but he could not run forever.
"But this isn't over. The Clear Sky Sect hasn't paid enough. Neither have the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect or the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan."
"I thought they'd settle down after joining the Clear Sky Sect. Instead..."
"Hmph!"
Bai Ye's eyes turned cold. He had nearly died twice, and his hatred for those two sects ran deep.
He could not stand against Qian Daoliu yet, and he was in no position to persuade him.
But he could surround the Clear Sky Sect and demand that they hand over Ning Rongrong and the others.
He was no gentleman, and he had no intention of waiting ten years for revenge.
If Spirit Hall's people beneath him could not approach the mountain where the Clear Sky Sect was based, he would build a force of his own first.
Nor had Bai Ye decided this on a whim.
Since coming to this world, he had intended to become a god—a god born of faith.
That might be difficult for others, but it would be simple for him.
Purification and Rapid Healing could save lives and heal the wounded.
Honor Blessing and Holy Light Protection could make people stronger.
The Sea God had gained enough faith to become a god after dominating the Water World for over a thousand years. Bai Ye could do the same—and in far less time.
Because he could roam the entire Douluo Continent, including the Water World.
"All right, head back and tell my teacher what happened here. Pass along my decision as well. We can leave the Clear Sky Sect alone, but the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan must hand over their people."
"Yes!"
The Spirit Hall elders vanished at once, and the eight Soul Douluo departed as well.
Only the three elders—Chrysanthemum, Ghost, and Poison—remained.
"Holy Son, what should we do next?" Yue Guan asked.
"I'm already at level fifty-eight, and there's no rush to leave. I'll reach level sixty here before deciding what to do next." Bai Ye placed Xiao Wu, now in rabbit form, into the Wishful Hundred-Treasure Pouch.
And so he began cultivating in the Sunset Forest, using the Eight Spider Lances to devour prey and speed up his progress.
Meanwhile, Da Ming and Er Ming, the two Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts, arrived at Shrek Academy using the information Xiao Wu had given them.
