Background / History

Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village under the care of his emotionally withdrawn father, Tang Hao. During his childhood, Tang Hao was frequently drunk and neglectful, leaving Tang San to cook, wash clothes, and work at the blacksmith shop to support their household. 12

At his Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony, Tang San initially revealed only Blue Silver Grass despite possessing Innate Full Soul Power. Yang Feng's diary exposed the Clear Sky Hammer concealed in Tang San's left hand, forcing Tang San to reveal that he possessed Twin Martial Souls. Su Yuntao immediately recruited him for Spirit Hall, and Tang San chose to leave Holy Soul Village in pursuit of better cultivation resources. 1

Spirit Hall treated Tang San as a priority talent, providing him with money, accommodation, food, tuition, Immortal Herbs, and body-tempering materials. While benefiting from this support, Tang San secretly investigated the circumstances surrounding his mother Ah Yin's disappearance and death. 7 12 24

Yang Feng later sent Tang San a supernatural diary exposing him as a transmigrator who had stolen Tang Sect techniques in his prior life before dying at Ghost's Sorrow. The diary's knowledge of his past deeply disturbed Tang San and made him question whether his fate was being manipulated. 8 9

Tang San is pragmatic and strongly driven by cultivation, choosing Spirit Hall's resources over remaining in Holy Soul Village with Tang Hao. 1 His time in Spirit Hall also made him politically cautious: he recognized that Bibi Dong's protection was meant to preserve and monitor a useful asset rather than protect him out of kindness. 12

He displays considerable pride in his Twin Martial Souls. When he returned to Shrek Academy as Spirit Hall's representative, he publicly displayed both martial souls, mocked Yang Feng's apparent Soft Bone Rabbit Martial Soul, and issued a challenge with confidence that he would win. 19 His defeat to Yang Feng significantly damaged that confidence, though he remained determined to seek revenge. 20 28
