In the library, little Hermione looked curiously at the hefty volume Li Wei was studying so intently and asked,
Li Wei closed Reproduction and Embryos in his hands, not wanting Hermione to see such adult material, and casually replied,
"Some medical and genetic knowledge."
A look of surprise appeared on Hermione's face. She asked strangely,
"Are you planning to become a doctor, then? Didn't you say you wanted to become an alchemist?"
Li Wei smiled at that. Deciding to chat with Hermione and take the chance to relax, he said,
"There's no conflict between the two. Studying medicine and genetics will help me better master Alchemy—for example, Life Alchemy and Bloodline Alchemy!"
"Hermione, the reason the House-elves you want to free have such deeply ingrained slavish thoughts and instincts—
is that ancient wizards used Life Alchemy and Bloodline Alchemy to implant slavish thinking into the House-elves' bloodline instincts. That is why they are so difficult to change!"
Hermione's expression turned ugly after hearing that, and she could not help asking,
"Then, to completely free the House-elves, we have to undo the bloodline alterations on them?"
"Li Wei, can modern Alchemy even accomplish that?"
