Background / History
Rocks commanded the Rocks Pirates, a crew of notorious New World pirates including Whitebeard, Golden Lion Shiki, Captain John, Silver Axe, and Ochoku. He ruled through intimidation and regarded allies and subordinates as expendable tools rather than equals. 11 20
When Charlotte Rektol was born with three hearts, Rocks immediately recognized the infant’s abnormal vitality as a resource. Through Rektol’s All-Knowing Eye, it is revealed that Rocks intended to deploy the Charlotte Family as cannon fodder at God Valley, then drain Rektol’s potential, blood, and marrow for experimentation. 2
Rocks later attempted to bring Rektol under his control by offering him an officer’s position and poisoned wine mixed with Seastone powder and blood poison. He had three concealed assassins ready to cripple and capture the child, but Rektol exposed the scheme, killed the assassins, and poured the poison over Rocks’ boots in front of Shiki and Whitebeard. 11
At the approach to God Valley, Rocks ordered the Charlotte Family to spearhead the assault against the God’s Knights. Rektol publicly overturned the order, forcing Rocks to accept a revised plan in which the Charlotte Family would cover the retreat instead. 20 21
During the battle, Rocks led a violent campaign against the Celestial Dragons and their defenders. When Garp and Roger cornered him, he demanded aid from Rektol. Rektol instead destroyed Rocks’ intended escape route with a lightning-and-reverse-gravity strike, leaving him trapped between Garp’s fist and Roger’s sword. 25 26
Rocks was ultimately overwhelmed by Garp and Roger: Garp shattered his jaw while Roger cut deeply into his side. His Conqueror’s Haki collapsed, and his fall marked the immediate fragmentation of the Rocks Pirates. 33
Appearance
Rocks wore a dark-red captain’s coat and presented an aged, unkempt appearance. His gaze was repeatedly described as bloodshot and lifeless, reinforcing the threatening pressure he projected. 2 11
- Bloodshot, “dead-fish” eyes. 2 11
- Withered hands and fingers; uneven teeth. 2 10
- Dark-red captain’s coat. 11 21
- Often smelled of tobacco, sweat, and cheap rum. 11

Personality
Rocks was ruthlessly ambitious, viewing power as the only meaningful basis for authority. He sought the Mythical Zoan Fish-Fish Fruit, Azure Dragon Form because he believed it would make his combat power invincible and allow him to force the World Government to kneel. 6
He was manipulative and exploitative even toward his own faction. His plan to sacrifice the Charlotte Family and harvest Rektol’s body demonstrates that he valued useful strength but had no loyalty to those who possessed it. 2 11 20
Rocks also possessed a violent hatred of the Celestial Dragons. At God Valley, he treated the World Government’s massacre tournament as an opportunity to slaughter the Celestial Dragons and the God’s Knights in one attack. 21 25
His confidence deteriorated into rage when Rektol’s actions made him believe Roger had betrayed him. In his final battle, he abandoned defense and attacked Roger recklessly, enabling Garp and Roger to defeat him. 27 33
