Pokémon at high levels can produce large-scale environmental effects; recorded examples include attacks capable of summoning wind and rain, burning mountains, and boiling bodies of water 1.

Role in Human Society

Pokémon are recognized as living partners and family members rather than tools. Abandonment and mistreatment are prohibited, and newly hatched Pokémon must be registered with the Trainer Association before they can legally travel or participate in regulated battles 1 2 5.

• Schools distribute Pokémon Eggs as a welfare program for students from ordinary families. These Eggs come from Professional-level Pokémon, and even inexpensive species can cost more than 10,000 League Coins 2.
• Pokémon identification is required for transportation and official competitions; unregistered Pokémon cannot use normal intercity travel services 5.
• Pokémon work alongside humans beyond battling, including research, reception, transport, investigation, breeding, and technological development 387 538.
• Wild Pokémon can be dangerous and organized. A group of Diggersby coordinated an ambush against both a Trainer and his Pokémon in the wilderness 377.

Growth and Development

Training and Level Growth

Pokémon primarily grow through nutrition, training, and battle. Energy-rich food—especially Energy Cubes—supports growth, while training develops a Pokémon’s abilities and battles provide combat-based growth progress 259.

Move proficiency is a major factor in combat strength. Repeated practice can improve a move’s power, activation speed, energy consumption, range, and secondary effects; proficiency can eventually exceed Mastery and enter the Limit-Breaking stage 6 32.

Move Acquisition

Pokémon can learn moves through three documented methods:

1. Growth — Moves awaken naturally from abilities encoded in a Pokémon’s bloodline as it gains levels.
2. Instruction — A Pokémon learns from a teacher, instructional material, or personal practice.
3. Opportunity — A Pokémon gains insight through circumstances such as evolution, battle, or exposure to a particular environment. 14

Move Learning Memories provide another unusually direct method of teaching moves, as seen when Mu Yun distributes moves such as Flash Cannon, Heal Pulse, Shadow Ball, Dragon Dance, and Dragon Cheer among his Pokémon 372.

Evolution

Evolution is a biological transformation that can increase a Pokémon’s size, mobility, strength, move pool, and combat role. It may also temporarily leave a Pokémon vulnerable; Kakuna, for example, remains unable to move or feed itself during its cocoon stage before becoming Beedrill 33 35.

Evolution in this world does not always follow familiar game mechanics. Slowking’s evolutionary requirements remain unresolved: researchers have been unable to reproduce it artificially, while the crown-shaped mark beneath its Shellder suggests an unknown condition 47.

The Faded King’s Rock reveals that some evolutions depend on social qualifications rather than a simple held item. It activates only when a Pokémon develops the dignity, responsibility, and sincere support necessary to become a king of its species 317.

Potential, Abilities, and Specialization

A Pokémon’s potential determines its long-term ceiling and can influence the quality of its specialties. Raising Starmie Patrick’s potential from Elite Four Level to Champion Level upgraded his Elite Four Specialty from the weaker Normal form to the stronger Strong form 516.

Under Mu Yun’s system, a Pokémon can earn Limit-Breaking Points when a move’s proficiency surpasses Perfected. These points may be spent to raise potential or strengthen an Ability 3 32.

Ability Development

Pokémon can develop their innate Abilities through prolonged study and practice. This is considered more difficult than improving moves: even Totem- and Gym Leader-level Pokémon may only be able to suppress an Ability, while detailed applications can require Elite Four-level comprehension 489.

Notable enhanced Abilities include:

• Critical Hit +1 — Beedrill Xiao Du’s attacks always count as critical hits and deal five times normal critical damage 341.
• Frozen Domain — Bingbing creates ice storms that weaken enemies while increasing her Ice-type move power for each enemy within the domain 201.
• Freeform Transformation +1 — Xiao Xin can freely alter her Types and gain up to a 200% move-power bonus when both Types become the same 586.
• Impenetrable Fortress — Aron is immune to opponent-inflicted stat reductions and abnormal statuses; his Moat state can extend his defensive strength to nearby allies 586.
• Super Brain +1 — Patrick’s intelligence enhancement enables extraordinary analysis and coincides with breakthroughs across all fifteen forms of Hidden Power 521.
• Fire Eater — Ceruledge Xiao Yan can absorb Fire-type moves of any attribute; each absorbed type permanently increases his Fire-type move power 414.

Communication

Pokémon do not share one universal language. Mu Yun determines that there are more than a thousand species-specific Pokémon languages, though Pokémon appear able to communicate across those barriers through an unexplained force that he suspects may be connected to Arceus 164.

Mu Yun’s Listening to the Voice of All Things allows him to understand Pokémon thoughts in real time and respond in their languages. Attempting to permanently learn Pokémon languages directly is mentally exhausting because of their immense variety 164.

Resources and Enhancement

Pokémon Treasures

Pokémon Treasures are rare materials, often found in Secret Realms or wilderness areas, that can provide growth benefits, move bonuses, evolutionary effects, or other specialized enhancements 16 95.

Treasures of the same rank can differ significantly in hidden quality and Energy Point value. Intermediate treasures such as Harmonious Light Leaf and Black Bone Fang produce vastly more Energy Points than Basic-level items 276.

Energy Cubes

Energy Cubes are a major nutritional and training resource. Attribute-specific varieties restore energy while permanently improving moves of the corresponding Type; Basic cubes can provide up to a 5% enhancement, while Intermediate cubes can provide 10%, with stronger results possible through superior crafting 259.

Evolution Essence

Evolution Essence permanently raises a Pokémon’s two highest base stats by five points each when its base-stat total is below 500. Ten fragments can be combined into a complete Essence, and there is no stated absorption limit 171.
