History
Origins and founding era
Lu Ming identifies the Uchiha as descendants of Indra Ōtsutsuki, eldest son of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths. Indra inherited the “Sage Eye,” which became the basis of the Sharingan, while the Senju descended from Indra’s brother Asura and inherited the “Sage Body.” 29 35 214
The Uchiha and Senju fought for centuries before jointly founding Konohagakure. Following Madara Uchiha’s departure, the clan weakened the clan head’s authority to prevent another individual leader from dominating the family; major decisions became subject to the Elders Council and clan assembly. 4 121
Suppression and internal crisis
After the Nine-Tails’ Attack, the Uchiha were relocated to Konoha’s outskirts, subjected to surveillance, politically excluded, and made increasingly unpopular through their control of the Military Police Force. The village leadership withheld nearly thirty percent of the police budget and denied the clan lucrative high-level missions. 2 29 162
These conditions divided the clan between radicals advocating a coup, conservatives fearing annihilation, and moderates seeking survival. Yashiro and Inabi prepared weapons and explosive tags, while Lu Ming argued that an uprising would be militarily and politically suicidal—and would give Danzō the pretext to destroy the clan. 1 9
Lu Ming’s rise
Lu Ming built prestige during the Third Shinobi World War by serving as a medic and saving numerous Uchiha. His reputation became legendary after he used Lightning Release: Kirin to severely injure Ōnoki and force Iwagakure’s retreat. 3
He cultivated a personal faction of young Uchiha, including thirteen Elite Jonin with Three-Tomoe Sharingan, then used the clan crisis to challenge Fugaku’s leadership. Lu Ming publicly dismantled the coup faction, impeached Fugaku for repeated concessions, defeated him, and gained recognition as clan head. 3 9 15
Fugaku formally relinquished the clan-head position, and the assembled Uchiha—including the elders, Shisui, Inabi, and Yashiro—recognized Lu Ming’s authority following his Mangekyō Sharingan awakening. 15 21
Revival and expansion
As clan head, Lu Ming established the Uchiha Shrine as an independent military institution, ordered Uchiha personnel to leave ANBU, and created the Temple Thirteen Squads to train and organize elite combatants. 16
The clan subsequently defeated Kumogakure, forced the Land of Lightning into unconditional surrender, and received 678 billion ryo alongside mineral resources, chakra metal, military supplies, and trade privileges. The victory transformed the Uchiha from a distrusted Konoha clan into a major military and economic power. 129
Lu Ming’s political campaign also led to Danzō’s removal, Root’s abolition, and the loss of Hiruzen Sarutobi’s central authority. The Uchiha retained their independence from the Hokage’s office while cooperating with Tsunade’s administration on mutually beneficial terms. 129 143 145
Modernization
The clan expanded beyond a traditional shinobi family through industries, trade corridors, railways, construction, mining, and commercial districts such as Myriad City. Its businesses eventually supported a significant share of the populations of the Lands of Fire and Lightning. 144 327
To address personnel shortages and bloodline decline, Lu Ming introduced open recruitment, childbirth incentives, centralized child-rearing, and the Inner Court–Outer Court system. The Inner Court preserves the clan’s military core and secret inheritance, while the Outer Court manages industry, public affairs, and permitted marriages with outsiders. 254 255 256 270

Abilities & Resources
Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan
The Uchiha’s defining bloodline is the Sharingan, attributed to Indra’s inherited Sage Eye. Its advanced Mangekyō form is exceptionally rare and grants individual ocular techniques and Susanoo. 29 35 263
- The clan possesses four confirmed Mangekyō users: Lu Ming, Fugaku, Shisui, and Itachi. 129 162
- Fugaku and Shisui publicly manifested enormous Susanoo to intimidate Konoha’s clan heads and leadership. 35
- The Sharingan’s power places extreme strain on the user’s eyes; blindness and ocular damage are treated as a major strategic vulnerability. 156 157
- The Basic Bloodline Tempering Potion can purify Indra bloodline traits, improve Sharingan-awakening potential, and enhance spiritual, physical, and chakra aptitude. It cannot yet be mass-produced. 246 256
Temple Formation
The Temple Formation links members’ chakra, Sharingan perception, and combat rhythm into a synchronized unit. 81 153
- Four Uchiha can combine perception, Lightning Release, Fire Release, and genjutsu to overwhelm stronger opponents. 81 153
- Four Elite Jonin can temporarily display Kage-level combat power through the formation. 265
- Larger formations increase the Shrine’s battlefield strength beyond the sum of its individual members. 208 265
- Sustained marches and repeated engagements still exhaust members physically and mentally despite their coordination. 82
Tiger-Leopard Thunderclap Body-Tempering Technique
A nine-level cultivation method that tempers the entire body through controlled internal vibration. 156
- Strengthens muscles, tendons, bones, skin, organs, blood, vitality, and sensory organs. 156
- Can nourish and temper the eyes, directly addressing the physical burden of Sharingan and Mangekyō use. 156 158
- Its introductory level can be taught throughout the clan rather than reserved for elite bloodline users. 158
- Higher mastery is described as granting extreme durability, regeneration, and near-immortality. 137
Great River Qi Refinement Method
A cultivation system that refines chakra into denser, more stable True Essence. 158
- The first three stages organize and compress chakra; the fourth stage onward absorbs natural spiritual energy and permanently refines it into True Essence. 159
- Improves chakra control, recovery, endurance, synchronization, and the performance of ninjutsu, genjutsu, and formations. 158
- Unlike Senjutsu, its growth is permanent rather than temporary and does not rely on a volatile chakra–nature-energy mixture. 159
- Lu Ming states that it can allow diligent practitioners to surpass conventional talent and chakra-reserve limits, making Kage and Super-Kage advancement attainable. 159
Heart Sea Spirit Refinement Art
A spiritual cultivation method intended to stabilize the mind and strengthen willpower. 137 159
- Improves resistance to genjutsu, ocular techniques, and soul-based attacks. 137
- Helps Uchiha bear advanced ocular power and reduces emotional instability associated with Sharingan evolution. 137
- Its early stages require meditation, willpower training, and contemplation of the “heart sea.” 137
- Together with the body-tempering and qi-refinement methods, it forms a complete body, energy, and spirit cultivation system. 159
Military strength
The Shrine’s growth turns the Uchiha into a force comparable to—or exceeding—a great shinobi village. 208 325
- The Temple initially fielded forty-three Three-Tomoe elites against Root. 20
- It later expanded to nearly two hundred official members, most possessing Jonin-level strength. 315
- Four squads deployed against the Akatsuki publicly included seventeen Kage-level fighters and dozens of Elite Jonin; the remaining nine squads and major clan leaders stayed behind. 325
- Foreign intelligence estimates place the clan’s total at forty to fifty Kage-level combatants, though the Inner Court’s true strength remains concealed. 327 329
Defensive infrastructure
The Inner Court is fortified with layered seals, underground barriers, sensory detection, patrols, and defenses against spatial infiltration. White Zetsu’s Mayfly Technique and Obito’s Kamui are both considered unreliable methods of entering it. 270 276
- The Uchiha Wall consists of seven Sunken Gold Iron gates that absorb chakra and must be opened through pure physical strength. 277 279
- The seventh gate weighs 256 tons; opening all seven triggers eighteen ceremonial bell chimes and earns a direct audience with the clan head. 277 279
- Before Madara’s arrival, Lu Ming was the only known person to have opened all seven gates. 279
